Sen. Ted Cruz may be cruising toward another bid at the presidency.
In an interview with the Truth Gazette, Cruz was asked if he would consider running for the White House, and the Texas Republican said his race in 2016 puts him in a good position to win the GOP nomination.
"Absolutely, in a heartbeat. You know I ran in 2016. It was the most fun I've ever had in my life," he said. "I ended up placing second. You know, there's a reason historically that the runner-up is almost always the next nominee."
Cruz lost his bid for the Republican nomination to Donald Trump in 2016, but he finished second in terms of delegates.
He faced a bitter contest with Trump in the waning days of the election cycle. At one point, Trump attacked Cruz's wife and his father. As a result, Cruz initially declined to endorse Trump at the Republican National Convention.
However, he ultimately endorsed Trump several months later over Hillary Clinton in the general election and became an ally of Trump in the Senate.
Numerous second-place finishers went on to gain their party's nomination in subsequent races. Examples include Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Hillary Clinton.

More presidential?
Oh, ya mean more presidential like the corrupt lawyers turned career politicians, posers, insiders, liars and open borders globalist that we've had going back decades?
I like Ted, and in fact I voted for him in the ‘16 primary, but I wouldn’t do the same in ‘24. Ted is a fighter and I like that about him in Senate hearings, but he also has a smarminess that turns off a lot of swing-type voters. Ted barely beat Beto O’Rourke in TX which is indicative of his weakness in appealing to the general public.
And this crap about “the previous runner-up gets the next shot”? Seriously, Ted? How did that work out for us when previous runners-up Dole, McCain and Romney were given “their turn”?
Trump should have put him on the SC safe state for replacement, of course there are not the financial perks at SCOTUS!!!
And will lose in a heartbeat
We all have our lines in the sand.
Sorry Ted, your base has moved on to Ron DeSantis. Stay in the Senate and help to take back America.
I like a tough President, I like an America First President, Trump by all accounts was both of those, but he is an egotist and it got in his way. Apparently it still is as he does not understand his supporters reaction to the mRNA injections. It often appears Trump's ego prevents him from reading the room.
I made myself pretty clear on the last thread. NO!
I do find this situation very interesting though.
If Hillary, Ted, and the Donald each run, we could likely
have an exact replay of 2016.
Understood. Makes some good sense. But I have doubt nevertheless. I’m no fan of his character. He’s smart and Knowledgable of the law. He had no business running for POTUS and he knew it. Also, there were those totally unnecessary insults about PDJT. I’d rather not have him
On the USSC, or any court for that matter. I think he’s a lot better dealing with policies than people or their constitutional rights.
As far as I go, let him keep going in the senate
delusional ...
His ego as you referred to it is part of his shtick, clowning around, part of the show....And you fell for it hook, line and sinker, thinking he’s dead serious...Funny stuff.
Yeah Ted had a tough time beating Beta in Texas.
That’s not a real strong performance.
I get it, like so many leftist, they were more concerned with his "Tone" than wide open violent borders, wars, etc...
Cruz would never make it past the Primary.
There are people here on FR who would rather have Biden or Pelosi in the White House over Cruz.
No, President Trump needs that back in 2024. He has a lot of kicking arse and taking names to take care of in 4 years. Cruz po’d me to the max in 2016 at the Republican Convention when he brought his losers attitude to his speech.....but he’s smart and would do well at Justice. President? Nah. DeSantis will be next after President Trump.........imho.
I like Ted. I support Ted. But, I think he’s exactly where he needs to be right now and doesn’t need to run for President.
And, there’s that whole “natural born citizen” thingie, that he, Kamala and 0bama would not qualify under.
No, we would rather restore the Constitution.
Cruz was born in Canada to a Cuban father.
He is in no way a natural born citizen.
That didn’t matter for obama or for kamala.
Wanna bet the media rediscovers that requirement if Cruz gets traction?
Bet they don’t.
BOTH parties wanted the natural born citizen requirement neutered.
