POLITICS Congressional candidate in Florida ignores HOA, won’t remove ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ holiday lights

A Republican businessman in Florida who’s running for Congress is trolling his neighborhood with a lighted “LETS GO BRANDON” display on his home, and he says he won’t remove the message anytime soon despite threats from his HOA.

Martin Hyde of Sarasota could face a $150-a-day fine, but he doesn’t care, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports.

“It’s fully in keeping with my personality and my campaign,” Hyde said. “Anybody who doesn’t like it, it’s one street... don’t come.”

In fact, Hyde plans to unveil a larger display at a campaign-style event at his home Wednesday with free food and alcohol. He’s touting the event on Facebook as a “LGB community party and ‘Non-woke’ Christmas lights unveiling.”

“When you poke the bear, there are outcomes and circumstances,” Hyde said, according to the newspaper.

The controversy echoes a similar scenario last month in the Florida Panhandle, when a homeowner was threatened with $50 a day fines for a three-story tall “Trump Won” banner outside his home and then was told he could face more fines for hanging a second sign reading “Let’s go, Brandon!”

The “Let’s go, Brandon!” phrase has become a popular conservative slogan in the past few weeks, since a reporter apparently misheard NASCAR stock car race fans who were shouting “F*** Joe Biden.”

Some Donald Trump loyalists are festooning the phrase onto their clothing, mugs, hats, vehicles and more as a signal of what they see as their proud outsider status in the wake of disappointment over President Biden’s election.

HOA’s are incredibly dangerous. I’ve had two knock down drag out lawsuits. Governor Bush was given a bill by the Republican legislature that would have made it much more difficult for HOA’s to seize your property but refused to sign it. I thought he was more or less okay until then. I am so glad he didn’t make the cut when running for President. I’m sick of dynasties anyway.

UGH, HOA’s.

One of the worse things from having moved to Central Texas.

HOAs treat property owners as if they were timeshare tenants.

No Congressperson should belong to a homeowners’ association.

Let’s go Brandon doesn’t have anything to do with the birth of Jesus. Christmas has been diluted and bastardized by the media, corporations, and politicians.

In some areas, HOAs in FL are hard to avoid.

“HOAs treat property owners as if they were timeshare tenants.”

HOA’s are run by the homeowners.

HomeOwnerAssociation.

This guy should include in his platform support for legislation making it easier to decertify HOA’s - I’d be happy to contribute to a campaign that would have a realistic chance of pushing something like that through.

I understand that ... it’s when some people get into positions of power they no longer act as elected representatives of the property owners, they act like bullies. Let’s see how things proceed with this current situation in Florida. It should be interesting ... until someone blinks then it’s just boring. Cheers!

since a reporter apparently misheard NASCAR stock car race fans who were shouting “F*** Joe Biden.”

The media needs to stop with this. She did not mis-hear anything, she chose to change what was being said by the crowd to try an convince those on TV they were not hearing what they thought was being said.

Beyond me why

A group of home owners dictate to their neighbors is any different that elected representatives dictate to their constituents.

Only difference is the group size. Maybe 200 vs 2,000,000

Both need limiting. Most are out of control in 2021.
