TOKYO, Dec 21 (Reuters) - The operator of Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant intends to build an underwater tunnel to release water from the plant into the sea, it said on Tuesday, as part of a project to treat and dispose of contaminated water....

...Pumps would move the treated water from the tanks to the seashore and through a seabed tunnel to release it at a depth of 12 metres (40 ft), and about 1 km out at sea....

I have sworn off Pacific seafood since 2011.

100% of people I’ve queried in the past 5 or so years when they ask why are completely oblivious.

Ignorance is bliss.

Why are people so worried about what’s coming out of Fukushima when we pounded the Bikinis with massive nukes for years? And we now know the holding tanks aren’t holding.

My understanding is that anything labeled as being from the Atlantic is actually farm raised which has its own health issues. Then there’s the mercury to worry about whereever fish originate from.

What about Alaskan salmon? I’ve heard and want to believe that the currents from Japan do not reach northern Alaska where salmon swim and spawn.

Fukushima is a dirty bomb that never shuts off. I am sure that it has created many times more radioactive material than all the nukes ever set off on earth.

Freshwater trout, for one. You can also buy South American Atlantic shrimp & seafood. I’m in PNW, so for the most part my favorite seafood was destroyed forever by Tohoku.

Not from my studies. Once I understood what a single particle of Cesium does when it decays into its daughter product, that was it.

Coupled with the fact that Fukushima is an ongoing, 11 year Pacific-wide disaster, no thanks. Salmon, tuna etc. are all dead to me.

It’s easy to tell which varieties of Atlantic salmon are farm raised, so I’m stuck with lox (can’t complain too much) & frozen steaks (which are just fine).

Very convincing. I don’t eat tuna either.
Lox rocks and shouldn’t be too hard to find. Frozen Atlantic salmon steaks? Costco? Or?

Talked to neighbor. I’m a block away from Trader Joe and they have lox. She says Costco has Atlantic salmon...I think I looked at those once and decided they came from fish farms. Maybe not. Years ago we had a discussion here about the dangers of farmed fish. At the time, many universities were trying to figure out how to raise them without a bunch of icky bacteria. Time to do another round of research.

Here’s a start re farmed fish. Gotta go start my day, more later.

I think most of the Atlantic salmon in the stores and restaurants are farmed. Once in a while Costco has wild salmon from Alaska. Once you eat the wild salmon you won’t want the farmed salmon. The same with shrimp. The wild shrimp is so much better. Once in a while Fresh Market has their wild shrimp on sale.
