Per the story, apparently the girl was able to flee while the perp was at work but chose not to, saying she feared for her family.
Clear thinking would have negated that threat but we must assume the girl was traumatized so she did nothing.

She met him on a slave fetish and bondage website and had him come pick her up. When asked if she was held against her will, the police said they are still investigating that. Apparently her phone was filled with raunchy fantasy texts, and when the cops knocked on the door they saw her run and hide.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this pans out.
Some kind of mormon reindeer games again. Utah gets a lot of these freaky girls that run away with weirdos.

Back in the 1980s the daughter of a university professor in New York State was kidnapped by a man who demanded that she shoot him to death, threatening to come after her family if she refused. So she shot him...but it must have been a very traumatic experience. As far as I know there was no reason why he kidnapped her rather than someone else.

Sadly common in captive, traumatically abusive circumstances. Evil people get right to work in rearranging the minds of their poor victims.
