Novavax’s Covid-19 Vaccine Approved by EU: Move paves way in Europe for first shot using an established vaccine technology

THE HAGUE, Netherlands -- The European Union’s drugs regulator gave the green light Monday to a fifth COVID-19 vaccine for use in the 27-nation bloc, granting conditional marketing authorization to the two-dose vaccine made by U.S. biotech company Novavax.

The European Medicines Agency decision to recommend granting conditional marketing authorization for the vaccine for people aged 18 and over, which must be confirmed by the EU’s executive commission, comes as many European nations are battling surges in infections and amid concerns about the spread of the new omicron variant.

Novavax says it currently is testing how its shots will hold up against the omicron variant, and like other manufacturers has begun formulating an updated version to better match that variant in case in case it’s eventually needed.

The Novavax shot joins those from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca in the EU’s vaccine armory. The EU has ordered up to 100 million doses of the Novavax vaccine with an option for 100 million more.

Last week, the World Health Organization gave emergency approval to the Novavax vaccine, paving the way for its inclusion in the U.N.-backed program to get such vaccines to poorer countries

It’s really inconsiderate to say what you have about people who aren’t getting the shots. Every individual has differing considerations health wise on why they’re choosing to stay away from getting these shots with very valid reasons including those who have been advised by their Dr.s not to.

I’ve had COVID. Since I’ve had it, I’ve been directly exposed for an extended period of time on several occasions to people who had symptomatic COVID and tested positive within 24 hours of me being with them. Other people with us (who hadn’t yet had COVID) also got sick. I didn’t. I travel all over the world every month on commercial airline flights. I only wear a fake mask. Looks real but has zero protective value.

For anyone who asks me why am l’m not vaxed, I reply that I am immune. And I will happily put my immunity to the test. I ask the vaxed person if they’ll do the same thing. That usually ends the conversation right there.

Why would I get an injection (that very clearly does NOT prevent COVID infection) for a virus I’m already immune to? I’m a guy. I don’t take birth control pills either. But if any of you vaxed folks would like to step up to the plate, it takes no time at all to find someone infected with COVID. Most of them are vaxed and many “boosted”. Let’s hang out with them all day. Same room. No masks. No hand sanitizer. No nothing. I have full confidence I’ll be fine. How about you?
