An Illinois Amazon driver was threatened with termination if she stopped delivering packages during the deadly tornado that recently ripped through the state and killed six other workers at a distribution facility.
The unidentified Amazon driver was told to “keep delivering” amid the wails of emergency sirens before a tornado hit the area on Dec. 10, according to Bloomberg.
“Radio’s been going off,” the driver wrote in a text obtained by Bloomberg News.
“Keep delivering,” came the response from her supervisor. “We can’t just call people back for a warning unless Amazon tells us to.”
When the driver suggested that she return to base, the supervisor warned that she could get fired for failing to complete her delivery run.
“Having alarms going off next to me and nothing but locked building (sic) around me isn’t sheltering in place,” texted the desperate driver. “That’s waiting to turn this van into my casket.”
The texts emerged as workers questioned the company’s commitment to the safety of their employees as workers at an Amazon facility in Edwardsville were told to shelter in a bathroom during the deadly twister which flattened the building and killed six employees.

I recall a Bomb threat in a mall I was working. On arrival to work I asked what was going on and then why we were still in the building....she said...”You’re not released yet”.......HA! I left the building immediately regardless.
The show must go on. That is what investors advice the CEO of companies to continue to do. It is the bottom dollar figure that is important while human lives and careers are of secondary nature. In the business world: no blood, no gain.(I sound like a commie but will never vote democrat)
I also heard the candle factory workers jobs were threatened by management if they left.
Unbelievably poor judgement.
Lawsuit city.
Bezos has zero compassion for his workers. Nothing but slave labor.
The night of the tornado when his factory was wiped out he went to a giant party.
lol... poor bastard...
I wonder if this rot goes all the way to the top — that is, to Jeff Bezos and his penis-shaped rockets.
Imagine being called back to the building the tornado is about to go through.
The Lennox HVAC factory in Marshalltown, Iowa saved hundreds of employee lives with their preparation and follow-through for tornadoes.
I used to use Amazon for the reviews, but even those are fake.
Only used them once, years ago
The box looked like it fell off the truck
Contents were OK, but but a square box it was no more
Worked for the DoD attached to the US Navy in aviation maintenance.
We had a saying: “our employees are without a doubt the best tool we have at this facility.”
Well worth protecting and hard to replace the good ones.
By now the delivery deiver should have been identified if something happened to him or her. A flurry of similar but not identical stories about Amazon keeping their employees working or on duty during the tornado warning have cropped up, I think only one was tied to an actual person (but I could be wrong).
I suspect a number of these stories will amount to fan fiction by people who just hate work or people who were never near danger who exaggerate their circumstances for fun and profit.
That said, if your employer ever attempts to compel you to choose between your life/family and their bottom line, and that wasn't the line of work you signed up for, be polite and professional, but take care of the real priorities in your life.
Walmart, Bezos and other big corporate giants are just using human employees while they figure out how to program the robots that will eventually replace them. Some employers work diligently to pay their employees as little as possible to keep their profits maximized. It doesn't mean work itself is garbage, it just means there are predators and bullies out there.
I ordered a Chromebook from Amazon for $200 and the price doubled a few days later but I still have it for $200 and they shipped it and then next day they said it was Undeliverable are they screwing me because I got it for half price ,LOL
That’s good service - what about hurricanes? 🤪
