After spending more than 12 years as director of the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Francis Collins is retiring this weekend. But he's no less worried about the public health agency's latest pandemic curveball.
As the omicron variant threatens record-breaking rates of infections in the U.S., Collins departs with a warning. If Americans don't take COVID-19 seriously, the country could see 1 million daily infections, he said.
"We cannot afford to let down our guard," Collins told NPR's Scott Detrow in an interview with Weekend Edition.
"I know people are tired of this," he said, acknowledging Americans' fatigue of having weathered almost three pandemic-stunted years. "I'm tired of it too, believe me. But the virus is not tired of us. It's having a great old time changing its shape every couple of months, coming up with new variants and figuring out ways to be even more contagious."

They all survived, no hospitalizations.

So in 300 days or so, everyone will have had covid, over 99.9% Will have survived it- vaccinated or not, and life can go on then? (How many million have already had covid? Gotta subtract those, so the days till everyone infected and surviving will be far shorter)

I know one person who died “from Covid”.
He had a chronic and serious heart condition for months, then went into the hospital when the condition got worse.
At that point he was tested for Covid (tested positive) and Covid was declared the cause of death.
Total f*&^ing joke!
Wow, 7 people in a country of 80 million died. In other news 7 U.K. Citizens have died today from toe fungus.

Imagine the number of piled up body bags with long waiting lists for funerals and burials. They may block out the sun light in some places.

Most (all but one) of the people I know who caught Covid were vaccinated. I don’t know anyone who died of it, and only one (an older man, a hard drinker with health issues) who was hospitalized.
I know plenty who have had covid and were unvaccinatwd and they lived.so what?

1 million cases? Great! It would be better of it were 10 million or even 100 million. That is how the human immune system works — the more who get a virus and recover, the better.
They would have us hiding in fear for the rest of eternity. If that were to happen, then humanity would cease to exist. Because it is the determination of humans in the worst of conditions, not willing to given up, that has driven the human race forward. Not cowering in a hole that we call a basement. It was only in recent years have we been able to survive without having to interact with each other. Mostly through technology and the industrial age. Take that away, and we are no different that humans 200, 300, 1000 years ago.
