They can still impeach Trump and bar him from elected office. Just think about it.
No they can’t. Not Constitutionally. Trump is a private citizen. Impeachment is to remove a string president from office. Any “impeachment” needs a would be a bill of attainder- a big no no.
Where in the Constitution does Congress have the power to impeach a private citizen?
They don't.
And as bad as the USSC has been, I don't think that they would support that crap.
“They can still impeach Trump and bar him from elected office,”
Not really. He is not in office. No Constitutional grounds for that at all. If they could, they would have already done so.
“They can still impeach Trump and bar him from elected office. Just think about it.”
On the other hand, they can still try to bar him from office, I suppose. Maybe that is what McConnell is angling for. But I don’t think that has ever been done.
Doubtful, but there's still Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. The would have to actually try and convict someone of insurrection but then could try and use the "given aid or comfort" clause against Trump. A long shot at best, but still easier than getting 67 votes in the Senate.
You can’t impeach someone UNLESS they’re in office.
Barring an ex-president from running for the office that he is still qualified to run for? Of course you can do all that garbage once the merest pretense of the constitution even being valid is thrown out. That’s the direction RINOs and GOPe statists are definitely going.
