The CEO of a major airline suggested during a congressional hearing this week that face masks provide little value on planes — a claim that was quickly amplified online.
Citing high-quality filtration systems aboard planes, Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly stated that “masks don’t add much, if anything, in the air cabin environment.”
But experts strongly disagree. Here are the facts.
CLAIM: Mask-wearing on planes is unnecessary because advanced air filtration systems sufficiently reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
THE FACTS: While it’s true that the common air filtration and distribution systems used in modern aircraft are highly effective at reducing the risk of COVID-19 transmission among passengers, masks add another layer of protection for air travelers, experts told The Associated Press.
While HEPA filtration systems are highly effective at reducing the transmission of viruses, they do not completely eliminate risk aboard flights, according to Linsey Marr, an aerosol scientist at Virginia Tech.
Leonard J. Marcus, director of the Aviation Public Health Initiative at Harvard University, agreed.
“Yes, the ventilation system on airplanes are incredible. They’re comparable with what you might find in an operating room,” he said. But “it is the multiple layers, it’s not one thing alone.”
The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO, a union representing some 50,000 flight attendants, has also called masks a “key component” of safety on flights, noting that not all planes have HEPA filtration systems.

I always turn to the union goons at the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO for my expert opinion on aircraft ventilation systems. Can’t beat those experts for detailed scientific knowledge.

Expert opinions are not facts. Present the data.
We don’t need complicated analysis for this one.
Every passenger removes their mask every time they sip a drink or eat something.
If the masks worked this destroys the concept.
If the masks don’t work they don’t work.

OMG LOL. I work with those flight attendants frequently. They may "beilive" that "science is real", but belive me, they're not real good at it. I can never figure out how the "belief" absent the knowlege provides any value.
I’ve yet to see an actual mask study. However, I did read that without actual proof Mask Manufacturers can not advertise their products stop the spread of viruses. So far, I have not seen one mask package that states this.

So the Far Left Association of Flight Attendants Union [AFL-CIO] couldn’t wait to jump on this one. The liberal Union loons are the ones who forced Clueless Joe into extending the original mask mandate.
There will always be an issue for the Far Left Radical Flight Attendants to campaign for.
Before reading, I predicted how far I would get before for finding the word ‘experts’. Made it to the third sentence before finding it. Two sentences further than I thought.
AP continues to use the word “FACT”, but it is clear they do not know what the word means.
I consider myself an expert on some things, and I say masks have no beneficial effect.

The only people who like mask requirements are power-trippers and virtue-signalers.
I have no problems with people who want to wear masks.
I have problems with those who try to make others wear masks.
