NYC could lower its average temperatures quite a bit if they would just go back to dirt roads.
ML/NJ
Many houses like mine built in 1972 in New England because of the oil embargo of the 1970’s.
All of those houses were changed to either heating oil, propane or natural gas in the 1908’s or after.
Electric heat is too expensive in the northern part of the country. Many houses here in NH have a wood stove or pellet stove as supplemental heat. I have a pellet insert in a masonry fireplace. It heats the majority of my house.
Maybe NYC can go back to burning coal. Even better they could burn cow dung like they do in India and African countries.
I hope they freeze in the dark! Maybe then New Yorkers will fight back against this nonsense.
Somebody ought to print 50-yard targets with that face on it.
You’ve never paid the electric bill for a house heated by electricity in a cold climate, have you?
Especially one that’s not heavily-insulated.
“New York City lawmakers are poised to decide Wednesday whether to prohibit most new buildings from using natural gas. . .”
Please do not post statements critical of this idea. I’m already afraid NYC will not do this.
Hello fuel oil. Couldn’t imagine a skyscraper being all electric, let alone the demand for more generation and distribution.
“Wouldn’t they just have electric heat and stove? I can’t imagine that being the end of the world.”
Electric rates in NYC and Long Island are high.
I meant to say many houses HAD electric baseboard heat when they were built in the 1970’s.
…or hydroelectric.
I won't own an electric stove. And I have WOOD heat.
But, I don't live in Noo Yawk, either. And they're not trying to cut off the propane or NG lines in my sweet home Alabama.
Or some people with vast amounts of money can buy up lots of pricey real estate on the cheap...
“Proponents also say they’re fighting air pollution, particularly on behalf of communities of color.”
AOC had better start loving the subway.
Unbelievable naivety. You have no idea about the reliability of a natural gas connection vs electricity. Hint: the former is FAR more reliable, and is often pumped not by electricity, but by engines burning natural gas right off the pipeline. I have seen this with my own eyes.
Yes, and energy = individual freedom
Stupidity in action.
This is a policy that only would have happened under a Russian invasion and occupation before this year.
Now elected politicians are doing this far
Lick-a-lamprey
“a move that would make the nation’s most populous city a showcase for a climate-change-fighting policy”
More like a showcase for what an asylum run by the inmates looks like.
Anyone who professes that “climate change” is an existential threat and does not avidly support nuclear power is more than a hypocrite, they’re an outright fraud ... but they do so love their fear ... fear of just about everything!
