Nathalie Charles, even in her mid-teens, felt unwelcome in her Baptist congregation, with its conservative views on immigration, gender and sexuality. So she left.
“I just don’t feel like that gelled with my view of what God is and what God can be,” said Charles, an 18-year-old of Haitian descent who identifies as queer and is now a freshman at Princeton University.
“It wasn’t a very loving or nurturing environment for someone’s faith.”
“It wasn’t a very loving or nurturing environment for someone’s faith.”
After leaving her New Jersey church three years ago, she identified as atheist, then agnostic, before embracing a spiritual but not religious life. In her dorm, she blends rituals at an altar, chanting Buddhist, Taoist and Hindu mantras and paying homage to her ancestors as she meditates and prays.
The path taken by Charles places her among the religiously unaffiliated -- the fastest-growing group in surveys asking Americans about their religious identity. They describe themselves as atheists, agnostics or “nothing in particular.”

Translation: They wouldn’t make me comfortable while I was going to hell.
How dare they expect me to live a biblical lifestyle!
Wish I could go to her church.
The ones around here have all gone woke.
I’m still a Christian.
I used to be a Catholic, but their refusal to deal with their pedophile priest problem caused me to leave.
I was very happily Methodist for years, but when we moved into the suburbs all the churches here are woke.
IOWs she doesn’t like what the Bible says about her chosen lifestyle.
What you believe is not necessarily your religion.
I would have guessed “Climate Change” as the new most common.
and that translates to DemocRAT...
They didn’t ask me. I’m a believer in Christ. It isn’t a religion but I’m good with that.
Those idiots don’t realize they are in a religion.
Well stated.
A lot, I’d say most, churches are now stand-up comedy style and a lot of rock music. Lots and lots of rock music. All the big non-doms are for sure.
The religion of the alt-far-left is Big Government.
“I just don’t feel like that gelled with my view of what God is and what God can be,”
It is all about feelings.
Sounds like she thinks God should join the US army.
She has made her god.
There's too much and too many wokeism/wokeists.
If someone asks me what my religion is, I’d tell them “None”. I belong to no major denomination anymore (thank you, Frankie), but when Covid broke out and churches didn’t want us anymore, a bunch of neighbors starting getting together to pray and discuss the Bible as only amateurs can and taking care of each other in the process. We’re quite happy with being “Christians without a church”.
It sounds like there are a wide variety of people who fit in both categories.
Many woke leftists claim they are religious and go to church.
Large institutions are just full of land mines these days.
It is not surprising that many folks choose not to walk across those fields.
According to this person she left because her views did not fit an almost 2000yr dogma that with all it's shortcomings has lasted. (she is just more knowledgeable than the Bible's teaching). If you're woke you will go broke - that's financially & spiritually.
Global Warming will take on a whole new meaning for many in Hell for Eternity.
