The NFL is all about athletic hyperviolence. It’s axiomatic that those who engage in chronic hyperviolence are the most likely to have CTE. Does CTE explain a propensity for violence or does propensity for violence explain presence of CTE?
Chicken <=> Egg?
My feelings exactly. I have had my bell rung dozens of times just being an average guy.
When I say “bell rung” I am talking about hitting your head hard enough to see stars (or even momentarily blacking out, as I did when I was hit in the forehead with a blistering slapshot) and having that ringing in your ears.
There ARE people who have had serious brain trauma such as soldiers under artillery fire or IED explosions, or even sports figures who have had serious concussions that are clinically significant and far beyond any bashing of the head I have encountered personally, no doubt.
But it bugs me to see it used as a catch-all excuse.
I wonder what percentage of Rugby players end up with CTE.
I always thought all injuries would decline radically if no padding was allowed. The game wouldn’t be as exciting because bodies flying headfirst through the air would probably less prevalent in the highlights.
Sure, but the white guy did because of the confederate flag. What nonsense.
And WTF exactly is “CTE”. DAMN all articles that use acronyms without defining them........
Well, that settles it, we will have to ban the NFL.
Not all brain trauma results in CTE. And nobody is really sure why. And we still can’t fully diagnose CTE while you’re alive. I wouldn’t say it’s an excuse, just completing the diagnosis.
Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy
Which probably doesn’t actually explain it. It’s your brain now continuing to damage itself, having sections “die off”.
Most likely climate change is causing it.
They say Aaron Hernandez was ate up with it too.
I don't know details of this case, but I would guess that the worst damage to his brain came either from the .45 caliber or the 9mm he used during this incident.
“A few years back, Rush Limbaugh said that because of CTE football in the future would become a diminished, regional sport. Public opinion and too many potential law suits.”
Nothing is permanent. Baseball was the most popular sport for 100 years, then about 1970 football took over. After 50 years it would be fine for another game to take over
I haven’t become an anti-sports nazi, but I personally don’t go in for football to anything like the extent I did before my brother died of a sports injury.Understand, he lived about three decades after the injury - but his death certificate positively was accurate about the cause of death, and it was that long-ago accident which paralyzed him way back when.
But as to boxing . . . what are you thinking when you enter a ring to inflict - or suffer - a concussion??? That simply doesn’t compute.
...yet had enough cognitive ability to load a gun, aim a gun, and kill 6 people. Personally I don’t care. Its obvious he is defective and will never serve a purpose in society. String him up and drop him, then move on to the next scumbag.
Correction, he saved the taxpayers the trouble and offed himself
...........awwwwww nawwwww !!!!
Leave em alone. They keep this up and there won’t be any NFL football. Lawyers will intimidate Pee Wee’s, Jr. High, High School and College. And, then, WHOOPS !!! The NFL’s 15 year long training schools will one day just vanish.
Many schools have already caved and cancelled football. The Adam’s story, if valid, will birth multi million dollar high profile lawsuits against the NFL and others.
Thank you.....IMO, the person posting the article “should” have defined the term on seeing that the article failed to do so...

So ‘completing’ the diagnosis of CTE is killing a bunch of people and then shooting yourself?
No. Completing the diagnosis of CTE is cutting into the brain and seeing the damage spots.
