A lack of transparency over the UK's first Omicron death prompted fury today, as a doctor told the Government to release more details to stop 'unnecessary alarm'.
Experts are demanding answers about the UK's first Omicron fatality, such as the individual's vaccination status, if they were part of group vulnerable to Covid, and if the virus was the leading cause of death.
Professor of medicine and consultant oncologist Karol Sikora said the Government was not providing the nation with enough information about the death, and that this was causing 'unnecessarily alarming'.
Were they in hospital for Covid or were they there because they had been run over by a bus?,' he said.
Boris Johnson revealed the UK's first death due to Omicron on a visit to a vaccination clinic in Paddington, west London.
He said: 'Sadly yes Omicron is producing hospitalisations and sadly at least one patient has been confirmed to have died with Omicron.'
Mr Johnson did not reveal the age of the person who died, or if they had underlying health conditions, which made them vulnerable, or whether Omicron was the leading cause of their death or a secondary factor.

Ha! The old “OF or WITH” shell game the authorities can’t shake themselves loose from!
I’m good with the OF vs WITH issue, provided people understand a critical thing.
77% of 65+ have hypertension. PERIOD. That’s a big number and it gets bigger as age increases.
It is the #2 comorbidity for Covid stats.
This means . . . stop with the comorbidity obsession. The vulnerability is BEING OLD. Not being old with comorbidities because, simply, essentially all old folks have a comorbidity.
What we need to know about this Omicron death is age. Not much else matters. The absurdity of it all appeared in South Africa when they started their “mild symptoms” report with the sentence . . . 80% of our hospitalized patients are under 50. Well of course they were mild. They were never at risk. And why have mild symptoms in the hospital, anyway.
But I digress. The point is OLD = VULNERABLE. Stop with the silly additions.
I’m 70 and up to my ass in comorbidities, my feeling is avoid the effing hospitals, take the vitamins, get the horse paste, avoid the vax. Ain’t nobody walking out of here.
Old just means more likely, statistically speaking. Some older people have no comorbidities. Some younger people have multiple comorbidities.
But you’re right, from what I have seen, the average age of death “from” covid is higher than the average lifespan for an American. The median lifespan, from what I read, is the same for both - 78 years.
Nod. The covid stats pre Delta were 80% of deaths were 65+ and 20% sub 65. 20% is not a trivial number. However, the majority of the 20% were 60+.
17% of the US population is 65+. That’s 56 million people. So we put restrictions on society for the benefit of 17% of the population.
Especially as it unfolds that only an Omicron tailored vax is going to help that 17%.
I suppose some will say . . . the 17% can self isolate rather than destroying the economy of the 100%. They’ll have to ask their parents and grandparents about that.
Well, I don’t know about cold and flu season but I do know that strep throat is going around K-12 and college students in CA. So that’s still a thing.
For me, the last time I was sick was Feb 2020. It’s kind of amazing, and I’ve enjoyed it. I think the secret is lots of handwashing. But I suppose my bout with Omicron will be coming soon—Dr. Malone on Steve Bannon’s War Room stated firmly that EVERYONE will get it this winter. Not sure how he knows that, but whatever. . .
I’ve been wondering that too—why do we always read about people in the hospital with “mild symptoms?” If my symptoms were mild I’d sure as heck not be in a hospital.
it’s the stinking FakeNewsMSM has is saying died FROM omicron. Boris said WITH omicron. no surprise taxpayer-funded covid porn ABC Australia went with the following:
14 Dec: ABC Australia: Britain reports world’s first publicly confirmed death FROM Omicron COVID variant
(AT BOTTOM: BY Reuters/AP)
At least one person has died in the United Kingdom after contracting the Omicron coronavirus variant, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said, in what is the first publicly confirmed death globally FROM the swiftly spreading strain...
Deaths FROM Omicron may have occurred in other countries but none has been publicly confirmed yet outside Britain...
“Sadly at least one patient has now been confirmed to have died WITH Omicron,” Mr Johnson told reporters at a vaccination centre in London...

And the deceased wasn’t admitted to the hospital FOR Covid-19. The Covid-19 “infection” was detected from the COVID-19 test that was mandatory for ALL patients being admitted to hospital.
IMHO, the likelihood is that the patient died FROM whatever condition they were admitted for instead of COVID-19/Omicron. But “they” will never tell us that.
The median lifespan, from what I read, is the same for both - 78 years.

What is the average lifespan of an infant born with birth defects? How are they accounted for in the “median lifespan” calculations?
Answer: The “median lifespan” calculation assumes that participants reach adulthood, 30 years old. So your “median lifespan” comparison compares to what age a 30 year old with average health complications will survive to how old a 77 year old with COVID will survive. Well yeah, If COVID is a dangerous disease the answer for both groups would be about 78. So yes, COVID is a dangerous disease to an aging population.

Comorbidity still has meaning. Young people can have comorbidities. And all comordities do not have the same strength to cause harm, even among old people. For example my aged mother had mild high blood pressure but easily survived the virus because she was otherwise in good shape.
So yes, COVID is a dangerous disease to an aging population.

Dangerous in comparison to what? Any more dangerous than ordinary flu, pneumonia, staph, etc.? We don’t lockdown our society over these other diseases of old people.
