South African president positive for COVID-19 as Omicron cases skyrocket

The South African president tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday as cases of the Omicron variant have surged in the region, officials said.

President Cyril Ramaphosa, who is fully vaccinated, is receiving medical treatment for “mild COVID-19 symptoms” after he tested positive on Sunday, his office said in a statement.

Officials said he began feeling unwell after attending a state memorial service in honor of former Deputy President FW de Klerk in Cape Town earlier in the day.

“The thing that’s important is that [Omicron] appears to be able to evade some of the immune protection of things like monoclonal antibodies, convalescent plasma and the antibodies that are induced by vaccines. That’s the sobering news,” Fauci told ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos on “This Week” on Sunday.

“The somewhat encouraging news is that preliminary data show that when you get a booster, for example, a third shot of an mRNA, it raises the level of protection high enough that it then does do well against the Omicron,” Fauci added.

I though that there was an article just today that said the “cases” in SA where dropping even though there was an increase in testing.

But his one says that the “cases” are skyrocketing..

I was talking with a woman in the medical field yesterday.
I asked her if COVID was as deadly as we are told, there should be 200k homeless dead and lying in the streets of CA.
Her response?
“There is a theory that they are so dirty, that their immune system is resistant”

So you can avoid Covid but not taking a bath?
This sounded very much like more propaganda to justify the lock-down.

Actually, cases really are skyrocketing, but deaths are extremely low, as are serious cases.

At the moment we have about 164k “cases” but only about 500 in ICU - around 150 of those ventilated.

I've heard that too frequent bathing can wash away body oils that help protect us from disease. Don't know if it's true, but I heard that years ago, long before Covid came along.

The omicron surge in SA began on December 1st. Nearly two weeks in, with a huge surge in cases, there has been no corresponding spike in deaths, which remain very low. The next week or two should tell us a lot about the lethality (or lack thereof) of the omicron variant.

According to Worldometer, which just shows data and does not have an agenda or even print opinions or predictions, cases in SA have indeed skyrocketed. But deaths haven't: they remain very low. The next ten days to two weeks should give us a much better idea of how serious the omicron variant is.
