The head of the Los Angeles Police Department’s union has a message for tourists planning a trip to the city this holiday season – don’t do it. Don’t go to Los Angeles. That’s quite a message coming from the second-largest city in the United States. The rising crime rate running rampant across the country is hitting Los Angeles especially hard.
Jamie McBride, head of the union representing LAPD officers, said he can’t guarantee personal safety. His warning came with a movie reference.
“My message to anyone thinking about coming to Los Angeles, especially during the holiday season, is don’t,” Jamie McBride, the head of the LA Police Protective League, the union representing LAPD officers, said in a television interview. The message from McBride comes as what many residents and business owners view as a wave of crime slamming the city and surrounding areas.
“We can’t guarantee your safety. It is really, really out of control. I said it to people before, it’s like that movie ‘Purge,’ you know, instead of 24 hours to commit your crime, these people have 365 days to commit whatever they want,” McBride said.

Hey, a target rich environment !
Many people here on Free Republic knock unions, and with good reason. But often union folks are the only people willing to tell you the truth. This article is a perfect example of that.
You never could but thanks for the warning.
Not even the governor vacations in his own state. He chose Cabo San Lucas.

Victor Davis Hanson: Third-Worldizing America
Authored by Victor Davis Hanson, op-ed via Townhall.com,
It’s called Third Worldization! It’s the utter breakdown of the law, and the ability of the rich within such a feudal society to find ways to avoid the violent chaos.
Neistat was right in identifying a pandemic of crime in Los Angeles as Third Worldization. In a recent online exchange, YouTuber, Casey Neistat vented his anger after his car was broken into and the contents stolen. Los Angeles, he railed, was turning into a “3rd world s***hole of a city.”
The predictable role of the smug, indifferent Third World rich, who master ignoring – and navigating around – the misery of others in their midst. In a medieval-type society of two rather than three classes, the rich in walled estates rarely worry that much about thievery. Crime is written off as an intramural problem of the poor, especially when the middle class is in decline or nonexistent.
Such impoverishment pales in comparison to the encampments of present-day Fresno, Los Angeles, Sacramento, or San Francisco. Tens of thousands live on sidewalks and in open view use them to defecate, urinate, inject drugs, and dispose of refuse.
Violent crime is soaring in America. Two things are different about America’s new criminality.
• One is the virtual impunity of it. Thieves now brazenly swarm a store, ransack, steal, and flee with the merchandise without worry of arrest.
• • Second, the Left often justifies crime as a sort of righteous payback against a supposedly exploitative system.
So, the architect of the so-called 1619 Project, Nikole Hannah-Jones, preened of the riotous destruction of property during the summer of 2020: “Destroying property, which can be replaced, is not violence.”
Third Worldization reflects the asymmetry of law enforcement. Ideology and money, not the law, adjudicate who gets arrested and tried, and who does not.

Fox News: California city/Walnut Creek boosts security budget by $2 million after ‘criminal mob’ ransacks after Nordstrom’s @ Walnut Creek was rocked by a smash-and-grab mob last month!

It’s the leniency of politicians like California Governor Gavin Newsom/Gruesome which is ultimately responsible for the descent into barbarism and this organized looting/piracy with masses of looters.
This organized massed looting is similar to a problem our forefathers had at one time. It was called piracy. They shot or hung pirates and then sank their ships with the pirates on board.
That worked for about 3+ centuries until George SoreA$$’s Elites’ took over our blue states, cities, mayors, local and state attorney generals, governors and often, the local police chiefs.
This has allowed George SoreA$$’s elites and his well funded BLMers to have free reign over many blue cities and states and now, the plundering of the Nordstrom’s in Walnut Creek.
Forget It, Jakes/Janes! Relax! It’s Now, Not Even Your City/Town/County nor State, any more!
George SoreA$$’s elites control everything now from your schools to the stores where you send your kids and try to buy things.
Even, If you didn’t vote for this, it doesn’t matter!
Your votes were probably not counted nor have been counted for decades, if ever!

And they never could. And according to a decision by the US Supreme Court a few years ago, LEOs are not required to either save your life or protect you.
LA is officially a no-go area. I have a friend in Orange County who thinks he’s fine there. I wonder how long he has before OC joins LA.
“Escape from L.A.”
“Hey, a target rich environment !”
Exactly
A very clever way of slapping back at the “defund the police” wokesters. Hit them where it hurts - their wallets. And they can’t do anything about it, since he is not a government employee or contractor.
I have a number of old friends in OC too, Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills. I hope it remains safe.
Bad enough... “We can’t guarantee your safety.”
Even worse... “We aren’t even allowed to try.”
LEOs are not required to either save your life or protect you.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Correct. There is no duty to do so.
Unbless there is a god Samaritan Law in the state which includes LEOs both criminally and civilly.
Which is something 2A supporters and activists need to point out when they are debating/arguing with leftist. That right there shutsdown the entire argument against private gun ownership.
That right there shutsdown the entire argument against private gun ownership.>>>>>>>>>>>
You bet.
LA has turned into vigilante heaven.
A semi auto drum magazined shotgun in 12 gauge and an AR-15 semi auto with 40 rd mags , and body armor, is all that is needed.
Look where that unions political money is going and tell me they support life, the right to bear arms against an oppressive government. Scalia… union vote. Just saying. This union is like every other, not committed to fellow citizen. Committed to themselves, their good fortunes. Money goes to their principles. Union slavery.
If they were so great why don’t people join them in transparent fashion and form them in free states. CA union slavery, supply chain..
con evil fruit come from a tree firmly rooted in goodness.
That will definitely work, but I have lived in both Downtown LA and Downtown Long Beach for the past 7 years and can tell you most of these violent criminals are cowards. They prey upon victims they perceive to be weak or defenseless.
If people in urban areas of California had the right to a ÇCW and used a weapon to protect themselves, crime would fall like a ton of bricks overnight. Not knowing who is armed is a tremendous detergent, and as I said, most of the inner city criminals are cowards emboldened by the fact that very, very few people have a gun and the cops are minutes away when seconds count.
I don’t disagree with anything you said there. My point was not that unions are perfect, or even good. My point was that they are often the only folks willing to see things as they are, and tell you the truth.
Here’s an example. I spent a few years working in an old-time steel mill. Safety was not the highest priority for the plant superintendent. His #1 priority was making the production goals. Well, okay. That’s why the company hired him.
So it was up to the union to blow the whistle when safety standards got lax. And for that I was grateful. Old-time mills were dangerous places.
