Forget speeding tickets β California truck drivers will soon have to watch out for pollution tickets.
State regulators on Thursday voted to crack down on heavy duty trucks weighing more than 14,000 pounds (6,350 kilograms) β those big semi-trailers that make up just 3% of all vehicles in California but spend so much time on the road they account for more than half of all pollution from cars and trucks each year.

New rules will require these big trucks, including ones from other states passing through Califonria β to be tested at least four times per year to make sure they meet the state's standards for particulate matter and ozone pollution.
Think things are expenive and hard to get in California? Just wait.

And we wonder why there is a West Coast logistics crisis.

They just keep upping the ante.
Not too long ago it was actually possible to push Californians too far.
But whether it be because there are so many foreign transplants here who have no clue or the state’s election system is irredeemably corrupt Sacramento is completely out of control and totally beyond accountability.

“Next year, regulators are poised to tighten emission standards for barges, ferries, fishing boats and tugboats that line California’s coastal cities.”
Tugboats? Yeah let’s shut down all of the tugboats and that will fix the California harbor backup. Brilliant.

Truckers are a smart bunch of people. If these automated unattended things just sniff the air as truck goes by push the clutch in turn the engine off roll by start back up let the clutch out and off you go.
But most likely what will happen is trucks will avoid California even more than they already do and California will have a crisis of their own making that they don’t understand why it’s happening

They’re also going to stop sale of portable generators, which means Nevada will sell a ton of them. And it will make it harder for the little guy to have reliable backup power. Meanwhile California’s super wealthy will put in place more expensive whole house generators, which are not regulated.

Ocean freight redirected to gulf coast and Atlantic ports. Product costs go up and California swirls further down the drain.

Nobody will have to give up or stop using equipment they already own. The force of this regulation falls on manufacturers," Berman said
And herein lies the problem, ALL Public Employee's and Every Other Person that receives any Funds from Government, should be Required to abide by this law the day it is signed. Violates interstate commerce clause.
I am not so sure. Years ago, when Reagan okayed double trailer trucks, Connecticut tried to outlaw them. THAT didn't fly. However, they were allowed to introduce onerous regulations requiring each trailer to be brought in from out of state separately before testing the driver. I believe those regs survived.

Just watch: that will devolve into a neighborhood snitch/ confiscation scenario. Glad I live in Idaho where I can fire up the dual fuel Champion 9.3kw genny when needed.

They are quite gross polluters—you can clearly see the diesel smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes during acceleration. That’s why a lot of the newer semi-truck rigs now have engines with particulate filters and urea injection systems in the exhaust system to reduce particulates and lower NOx.

You can’t redirect freight from Asia to Gulf or Atlantic ports. We’ll, you can, but it will triple the voyage time.
What will probably happen is a port will be built or expanded in Tijuana or expanded in OR or WA.
