President Joe Biden on Wednesday signed an executive order (EO) to spend taxpayer money to make the vast fleet of government vehicles and thousands of federal buildings nationwide carbon-emission free by 2050.

“The executive order will reduce emissions across federal operations, invest in American clean energy industries and manufacturing, and create clean, healthy, and resilient communities,” the White House said of the executive order.

Unconstitutional.
Any spending needs to begin in the House and be approved by the Senate.

Obama tried to push the .gov agencies to acquire flex-fuel vehicles and use E85 blended fuel in place of regular gasoline. Not just by Executive Order, but actual legislation which they managed to get through Congress (basically the pertinent EO language, copied into the U.S. Code). Any federal fleet vehicle garaged with fifteen miles of an E85 pump location (per Dept. of Energy) had to use the stuff.

The response was a giant yawn from the collective federal bureaucracy. They just ignored the requirements or found giant loopholes to enable them to keep doing things the same way they had before.

These kind of proclamations are supposed to make the electorate feel better, because they show the government living by the same rules they want to impose on the citizenry. Too bad it's all fiction.

Federal agencies use a *lot* of large SUVs and diesel-powered trucks, and of course first responders like USCG and FEMA prefer diesel so they can tap DOD fuel sources if needed. That's not going to change in twenty years.

The USPS can’t even keep their mail trucks from smelling like a lawnmower running pig-rich.
