You sound as deluded as someone that brought up the 16yr old girl that had a PMAG with the window and that a potential adversary could see her round count. Unbelievable.

Did you watch the video?

BwanaNdege.....Bingo..

marktwain....I hate to be like this with folks on here, but you’re out of your mind right now.

An elderly man, winter clothes, hood up, starts taking rounds and you think he’s going to start doing ninja flips and draw weapon and return fire. If you’re bringing p information you either have ZERO idea what you’re talking about or you’re so overconfident of any abilities you may think you have that you’re living in LaLaLand.

Sadly, this man was way behind Jeff Cooper’s Color Code, as he should have been just walking to get a newspaper as he’s probably done for decades.

Please, get over yourself.

Yes I did.

And I saw a 71 year old man that was shot in what appeared to be 3 separate instances. Initially, when the car comes into view. Again, after it pulls forward about 20 feet and then when the shooter stops, exits and executes the victim.

Let me reiterate.....a 71 year old man, minding his own business, hood up, walking down the street.

A 71 year old man NOT walking a foot patrol or movement to contact to engage the enemy.

If he did at all, before he knew what was going on, the guy was on top of him. Good Lord, marktwain the Assassin Super Spy.

A long time ago there was an anti-police community organizer in Arizona that ran his mouth pretty good against the cops. They invited him to do some simmunition training. At the end of it, and they weren’t even difficult scenarios, he either shot unarmed people or was shot repeatedly himself. And that is in an environment where he knew something was going to happen.

And, I’ll do you one more.....Some friends were police academy instructors at the department we all worked. As is normal, a guy came in to sell his tactics. In this case he was an ‘edged weapons’ guy, a knife fighter. One of my buddies sounded just like you.....Man, I’ll light you up you come at me. Gauntlet thrown down, so the did a scenario. The guy had some training device that marked where you would have sliced, diced and stabbed. So....ACTION....my buddy had marks all over him before he even knew what had happened. Not just marks anywhere. Marks on his inner thighs, wrists, arms and throat area. After the laughing and the ball breaking was over, red faced, he just acknowledged the man’s skill and shut up.

One of my buddies sounded just like you.....Man, I’ll light you up you come at me.

You are putting your words in my posts.

I never said anything like that.

Here is what I said in post #57:

One of the most important part of situational awareness is to shed the notion that "It cannot happen to me."

I am not saying, in any way, this was the fault of the victim.

In a civilized society, such events would be extremely rare, and shocking.

I am saying, if he were armed, and had considered how to act if he were attacked, he would have had opportunity to defend himself.

What you seem to be saying is: you can never defend yourself, because normal people never are aware enough to defend themselves.

That is simply not true.

I agree with you, the 71 year old was minding his own business, walking down the street.

He did not have to be "on patrol". But it was Chicago. We have been told in this thread that Chinatown is surrounded by bad neighborhoods.

It is a shame it had come to this, where a peaceful citizen has to be concerned for his safety, just walking down the street.

But to claim that if he had been armed, and had a slight amount of more awareness, he still could not have done anything, is simply wrong.

I’m not putting words in anyone’s mouth.

Like others on here.....Man, if I was there this is what I would have done.

Well, you weren’t there. And you have no idea what you would have done.

I’ve been in more than one argument with people on here, folks that carry every day, about what they would/could/should do. And unless they’re training, at least twice a month, preferably more, in the manner in which they routinely carry their gun, I doubt most of them could hit a damn thing. Let alone in a 1.5-2 seconds from concealment, after being ambushed.

Just leave what happened, to what happened.

Within minutes of the shooting, the Chinatown Chamber of Commerce provided 9th District police with the surveillance video that led to police to be able to track Joyner's vehicle to the Kennedy expressway, where they were able to catch him in slow traffic.

As sad as this is, it’s awesome that someone took the time and spent the money to hang some cameras.

Without that camera, might never had any information on what happened.

That is correct. I never said anything different.

I talked about what was reasonably possible.

qaz123 wrote: Let alone in a 1.5-2 seconds from concealment, after being ambushed.

Where does that come from?

He had about six seconds from the first shot to the second set of shots.

Are you saying a person who was a little bit more aware would not have had time to take cover?

Are you saying someone who was a little bit more aware could not have fired back at his attacker?

qaz123 wrote, bold added by me: Sadly, this man was way behind Jeff Cooper’s Color Code, as he should have been just walking to get a newspaper as he’s probably done for decades.

So, are you advising people to walk around in Jeff Cooper's Condition White?

I advise people, if they are armed, to be in Jeff Cooper's Condition Yellow. It seems sensible to me for people who are living in Chicago.

and it was a side street, not a more traveled artery.

Exactly correct.

And there was only one car moving, and no one else around, at least no one else visible, in the video.

Yes, that is a good thing about our new digital surveillance society.

As this murder is getting national attention, it may serve as a deterrent to some criminals.

No I’m not advising anyone to walk around oblivious. Good Lord.

What I am advising is that some keep their ‘ninja, Delta Force, If is was there, SEAL Team 6, Jack Bauer, Jason Bourne’ comments to themselves.

Once again......he was a 71yr old man. Walking to get a newspaper. In what seemed like a clean and, maybe, a decent neighborhood. I know nothing about Chicago other than it’s known for being windy, cold, and I have no desire to go there. However, the neighborhood doesn’t appear to the “bad side of town”. In fact, it looks like a rather nice part of town. Decent cars on the street. No trash on the sidewalks. Clean. The way it’s supposed to be.

I’m sure when you go out and about, your head is on such a swivel and you maintain so much situational awareness that it’s hard for you to get anything done. Do you walk around with one hand on your EDC, always making sure you keep your back to the wall so no one can sneak up behind you?

Guess what? Learn about Cooper’s Color Codes and you learn that it is physically exhausting to walk around in a state of stress like that. You’re body isn’t designed for that.

That guy probably walked that sidewalk for decades. Could have never experienced one single problem that whole time. He was ambushed from behind, while wearing a hood. There’s a good chance he felt the initial stings from the rounds but may have never heard the shots. And even if he did, there’s just as good a chance he didn’t know what they were. Not everyone in Chicago is around gunfights. By the time he realizes what the hell is happening, he’s the ground and the guy is standing over him.

it may serve as a deterrent to some criminals.....

That could and should be the case. Not too long ago, the cities surveillance cameras filmed a gang shootout, Chicago PD rolling up on the shootout in progress, a dead body dumped out of one of the cars, guns recovered, shooters involved arrested annnnnnnnnnddddddddddddddd........

the Chicago DA, Kim Foxx, declined to prosecute.

Guess what? Learn about Cooper’s Color Codes and you learn that it is physically exhausting to walk around in a state of stress like that. You’re body isn’t designed for that.

You are mistaken. Your body is exactly designed for living in a state of mild alertness. People lived that way for millennia. It is how nearly everyone lived prior to civilization.

The condition we are living in, now, where people assume life is risk free, is unusual.

It is the outlier. In a good way, of course.

I want to keep it that way. It seems many in our society want to turn our society in a war zone.

But staying in a state of relaxed alertness is not unpleasant or unusual. Some people are better at it than others.

I have to work at it. I do not claim to be any "super-ninja", never have been.

I know quite a few people who have a natural talent for it, and do it effortlessly.

Here are the Jeff Cooper Color codes, which you have mentioned. Here is his description of Yellow:

Yellow

In condition yellow, you remain relaxed, but are aware of who and what is around you. This merely means that you are paying attention to the sights and sounds that surround you whether you are at home or moving in society. Condition yellow DOES NOT equate with paranoia or any other irrational fear of persons or places. Instead, you simply have moved your alertness to a level of attention that will prevent you from being totally surprised by the actions of another person.

While walking through an area you will loosely keep track of anyone behind you. When choosing a seat in a restaurant, you will position yourself to see the entrance or to minimize the number of people who might be behind you. You don’t need to insist on securing the “gunfighter seat” which will put your back to a dead corner and your face to the entrance, because you are not anticipating a threat, you are merely conducting an inventory of your surroundings and the other people around you.

You will also be running a cursory “what if” mental visualization of where a threat could appear and what your reaction(s) should be.If you are attacked in condition yellow, it should not come as a total surprise.

Your response to a threat should have been pre-planned to some extent, allowing you to simply run an existing plan rather than having to make one up quickly while under fire. A competent police officer MUST be in condition yellow whenever they are on duty —or when armed while off duty.

When a person is armed, I believe they should be in condition Yellow.

I stipulated my comments on this situation, that if the victim in this case had been armed, he had a reasonable chance of not being killed.

That was my thesis.

Perhaps I am misreading you, but your response seems to be:

He had no reason to be armed or in condition yellow.

That assumption seems to be followed by:

No one can do it, except super ninjas, and anyone who says anybody can, is crazy.

Please correct me if I am misstating your views.
