The Catholic Church in the Netherlands has entered such an unstoppable spiral, according to research by the Trouw newspaper, that eight out of ten parishes are in the red and will have to be closed.
From 1970 to 2008, 400 Catholic churches were demolished or converted. Since then, the rate has accelerated dramatically. Two churches, on average, close every week. One fifth of all the churches in Holland have already been converted.
Holland still has six thousand churches. Up to 80 percent of these will lose their religious function in the coming years. There is a shortage of money and faithful and demolition is looming.
Also sold was the Cathedral of St. Catherine in Utrecht, bought by the adjacent museum of religious art. Since 1853 all the priests of Holland were consecrated in that cathedral.
Fifty years ago there were 2.7 million "active" Catholics in the Netherlands. In 2016 there were 173,000. By 2030, there will be just over 63,000.
Between 1970 and 1985, Dutch Catholics fell by 70 percent.

Cardinal Wim Eijk himself explained to the newspaper De Gelderlander that Christianity in Holland is nearing its end. Within ten years, he said, within the archdiocese of Utrecht, the largest and in theory the most active in the whole of Holland, only 15 of the current 280 churches will continue to celebrate mass. One fifth of all Dutch churches have already been converted to other uses. And a Trouw study shows that 25 churches have been converted into mosques.

Exactly right. The Dutch were so open minded that their brains fell out. They allowed muslims into their country in large numbers and are now going to get islam good and hard.
Looks like the Dutch and most of the EU are trending heathen ... wonder if it is trending on faceplant?

How are WE doing in the US with muzzies in Congress? And we are the ones who were attacked on 9/11/2001 and fought them until we lost in Afghanistan this year. We have very little to be proud of the way we have fawned over Islam.
Holland are the two provinces bordering the North Sea. They are mainly protestant. The Eastern and Southern provinces are Catholic(Brabant, Gelderland and Limburg)
And the rest are democrats.
Means nothing, it is a local event.

Too rich. Wealth always ends in excess on a civilizational level. Individuals may or may not be able to handle wealth, but a civilization that doesn’t need to fight everyday for it to sustain itself looses purpose and focus. Hedonism is a treadmill and you need more and more luxury to get less and less satisfaction.

That could be a lot of it. I’ve pointed out myself how my grandfather was 1 of11 bros and sisters. They grew up tough, individualistic, fought in wars etc. My dad was 1 of 3 kids. I’m an only child. I reversed the trend a little, have 3 kids and 7grandkids.
But each generation seems richer, smarter and less aggressive/self reliant, willing to fight.
