SANTA FE — A redistricting proposal that would split Albuquerque in two and establish a Democratic lean in all three of New Mexico’s congressional seats is off to fast start.
The proposed map — jointly sponsored by Sen. Joseph Cervantes of Las Cruces and Rep. Georgene Louis of Albuquerque, both Democrats — cleared its first committee Wednesday on a party-line vote over the objection of Republicans.
It would make the 2nd Congressional District — now held by Republican Yvette Herrell of Alamogordo — more Democratic by moving into it much of the West Side of Albuquerque, some neighborhoods near the zoo and the South Valley.
The district would also cover southern New Mexico, including Las Cruces, Carlsbad and part of Hobbs.
The remainder of Albuquerque would share the 1st Congressional District with Rio Rancho and Placitas to the north and stretch the East Mountains and then south to Ruidoso.
Sen. Cliff Pirtle, R-Roswell, said the map was a deliberate attempt to give Democrats all three of New Mexico’s seats in the U.S. House. It would dilute the voices of rural voters, he said, by lumping them in with more urban and suburban areas.
The state’s traditionally Democratic-leaning 3rd Congressional District, for instance, would be redrawn to take in largely conservative Roswell and Artesia, while Rio Rancho would be moved out of the district.
“It’s pretty disingenuous to say we tried to keep communities of interest together,” Pirtle said. “You can look at this map and see that’s not the case.”
The proposal, Senate Bill 1, passed the Senate Rules Committee on an 7-4 vote and must clear just one more committee before reaching the full Senate.

Here's how the numbers would break down by party. Democrats would have:
— An 8 percentage point edge in the 1st Congressional District, or 54% to 46% over Republicans.
— A 6 point edge for Democrats in the 2nd Congressional District, now represented by Yvette Herrell, the lone Republican in the delegation.
— An 11 point edge for Democrats in the 3rd Congressional District.

I bet Garland will not be sending the DOJ after NM like he is for Texas.
Meanwhile the DOJ is suing Texas over its redistricting plan.
I think Harrell can hold this seat in 2022. This also has the potential to blow up in the Rats’ face. If there is a uniform 12 point swing in 2022 like we saw in VA and NJ, last all Three of those seats will fall to the GOP.
Same crap in Nevada.
The New Mexico Democrat gangster government cannot win on issues. So they cheat yet again and disenfranchise southern New Mexico.
No doubt the DOJ will file a lawsuit within days to rectify this. /s
This stuff doesn’t bother me so much. As long as sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander it evens out, and any cures would be worse than the disease.
So, will DOJ sue over this commiemandering?
Ah, but the Great Student of Repressive Tolerance, Merrick Garland, will stop GOP gerrymandering while leaving Commie gerrymandering alone.
Extreme gerrymandering has a problem - it dilutes your party votes. Then, when there is minor shift in voters preferences, you may loose a lot of seats.
This may result, in NM having three Republicans and zero Dems in congress.

"14th Amendment, Section 2: Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced [emphases added] in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State."
Note that after 13th Amendment was ratified, Republican members of Congress recognized that the amendment would work in favor of Southern States by effectively repealing a previous constitutionally enumerated restraint for calculating number of House representatives (1.2.3). So section 2 of 14A was intended to limit problems with Democratic-dominated Southern States possibly trying to take advantage of that.
Section 2: Apportionment of Representatives
Since the political descendants of Civil War are seemingly now politically fighting the cold war part of that war, Democratic redistricting for Albuquerque may not pass the "for any reason" clause of section 2 imo.
Corrections, insights welcome.
The ultimate remedy for unconstitutionally big, alleged election-stealing, Democratic Party-pirated federal and state governments that manufacture crises to oppress everybody under their boots...
Consider that all the states can effectively “secede” from the unconstitutionally big federal government by doing the following.
Patriots need to primary federal and state elected officials who don't send voters email ASAP that clearly promises to do the following.
Federal and state lawmakers need to promise in their emails to introduce resolutions no later than 100 days after start of new legislative sessions that proposes an amendment to the Constitution to the states, the amendment limited to repealing the 16th and ill-conceived 17th Amendments (16&17A).
In fact, I challenge the states to ram the repeal amendment for 16&17A through the ratification process faster than Nancy Pelosi irresponsibly rammed unconstitutional Obamacare through the House. /semi-sarc
Again, insights welcome.
Wouldn’t it be funny if they ended up with two Republican seats.
