But I wonder, couldn’t this Big Brother kill switch be simply bypassed by the car’s owner?

Unlikely. Since all the cars will have it integrated (it is not an option like Onstar was), numerous aspects of the cars other computers (they are legion) will be looking for it, and may make the car undriveable until fixed.

It think some systems will be more easily defeated than others. For instance, cars that are based on cars sold in other countries that DON'T have the requirement (e.g. India) are likely to be less well integrated. Second, for the government control aspect, finding the antenna that downloads the government/third party signal and disabling it by disconnection or by covering with aluminum foil may take care of that issue. Third, some popular models (Mustang, Silverado) may have after-market "performance" kits that could work around it, though they may be illegal to purchase here.

I couldn’t live with something like that. I’m constantly adjusting my position within a lane to avoid potholes and debris, or to give another vehicle a bit more room, or to take a curve more smoothly. I do the steering, not some gadget.

You can get Ford parts from LMC Truck and another company I forgot.

Google a part you are looking for with 1978 Ford 250 and see the catalogs.

I guess its a V8 automatic but there are V8 and straight 6 motors also 2wd with manual.

I replaced the 3 on the T with a 4 speed overdrive manual floor mounted gearbox.

Also rebuilt the gauge console with a new plastic gauge mounting....I had a supply of parts from about 15 years ago when I first brought the truck.

Also rebuilt all the steering linkages and new shocks....runs great.
