What am I missing?

There are different grades of oil, based on local geologies, that require different refining methods based on the targeted purpose (fuels, heating oil, lubricating oils, plastics manufacture, etc.)

Oil pumped in one place is transported to the refinery best suited to process that oil, which may not be in the United States. The refined product is then shipped back to the markets that need them.

I don’t believe anything experts tell me. Ban the exports, The ban makes common sense. If the oil isn’t the right “kind” then leave it in the ground for future generations or increase domestic refinery capacity for that “kind” of oil.

Of course. ;)

In DC there are lots of ways to avoid taking action. Among them include endless talking, preparing studies, holding committee meetings, and throwing money at problems. Anything to avoid being on the hook for practical and economical solutions.

It would be cheaper to just buy the Big Guy off with 10% of energy proceeds to let us do whatever we want.

The fact that Oil is fungible needs to be studied and understood by Americans.

The fact that Democrats are endangering our National Security with their energy policy also needs to be understood by Americans.

How about they man-up and call for impeachment? Or the 25th amendment? Talk is cheap.

"I understand being alarmed is one notch above concerned, but lower than troubled."

Wake me when they get to "violently pissed" and are in the streets of DC storming the Capital...

Until then, it is just MOTS...

So do the Dems. Unless they’re going to set fire to a stockpile of oil barrels, they’ll be going somewhere.

Your first clue is in their title: They are REPRESENTATIVES to Congress. They Represent the people that elect them. Not all Americans.

You are missing the next move. The very stern, concerned letter begging him not to do it.

The majority of total U.S. petroleum exports are petroleum liquids and refined petroleum products

Because of logistical, regulatory, and quality considerations, exporting some petroleum is the most economical way to meet the market’s needs. For example, refiners in the U.S. Gulf Coast region frequently find that it makes economic sense to export some of their gasoline to Mexico rather than shipping it to the U.S. East Coast because lower cost gasoline imports from Europe may be available to the East Coast.

Petroleum liquids include hydrocarbon gas liquids (HGL). HGL exports, mainly propane, have increased substantially since 2008, and in 2020 represented about 25% of total gross petroleum exports. The top five destinations of U.S. total petroleum exports (including crude oil) by share of total petroleum exports in 2020 were Mexico12%, Canada11%, China8%
Japan6%, India6%

It has been closer to 50 years.

1976 was the last one was built from the ground up.

But, we have closed dozens up of upon dozens across the entire country. Even strategically located one have been closed, removed or converted.
