Well of COURSE somebody tested positive for the midterm variant. Nobody was looking for it until now.

Midterm?? That’s a year away variants burn out well before a year, Delta is winding down in much less than a year. The midterm variant should be released in May or June for optimal effect not a year ahead of time.

Omicron is a very mild illness that is short lived and everyone is going to get it like the common cold. Nobody should care if they get it. And further more the vaccine does not stop it. It does not make it milder. It does nothing at all. We should not care about Omicron. The cure is far worse than the disease.
Clearly it’s circulating world wide. Clearly the index case was not two weeks ago. And given its circulation we must assume that it is less dangerous than delta. The only question is the small amount I am seeing in the southeast that is hospitalized is it the end of delta or an infrequent omicron severe case
Overall I still maintain that omicron is the end of the pandemic. Contagious but not dangerous will breed a large cohort of natural immunity.
Omicron is actually the mildest variant of the Corona virus so far and the theory is it formed by the Covid virus combining with the common cold virus. The likely first host was an immunocompromised individual (HIV positive and not taking medication which apparently is very common in S Africa) who was simultaneously infected with Covid and the common cold. Or so goes the theory.
