Aboard aircraft carriers in the 1980s there was so much JP in the water I thought of posting “No Smoking” in the shower compartments.
On an older CG our sounding & security watch used a fuel tank sounding tape on our potable water tank. We had to fill and flush it three times. On the third fill it got contaminated again. Water hours for ten days is no fun.
