A South African official said Saturday that rising COVID-19 infections among children in the country are mild concerns about the rapidly spreading omicron variant in the country.

South Africa has seen an increase in hospitalizations in young children and pregnant women, but it is too soon to tell if the increase is from the omicron variant that was first detected in the country, Reuters reported.

Ntsakisi Maluleke, a public health specialist in the Gauteng province, told Reuters there were 113 children under the age of nine in the hospital with COVID-19 in the province, an uptick from past coronavirus waves.

We need a few weeks to ascertain the early death rate.

Remember the stories of people dropping in the streets early in the COVID hysteria?

I’m confused. First, we heard the effects were minor, then yesterday there was a story about a lot of hospitalizations of young children, and now this. What to beleive?

This official is probably correct—this is not the first time symptoms have been described as mild. It also accords with what an epidemiologist on the Lars Larsson Show said, pathogens become more infectious with time but less virulent.

There is just no evidence of that. Smallpox virus did not lose deadliness over centuries, maybe millenia, of time. Nor did polio. Nor HIV.

This concept of more transmissible and less deadly is wishful thinking, probably intended to move a stock portfolio.

Scroll down. Click on: DAILY HOSPITAL SURVEILLANCE (DATCOV) REPORT (Jul-Dec 2021)

View the data yourself with full breakdowns. Gauteng is where you want to look, the epicenter.

Looks like more people hospitalized, but O2 / venting is not going up as of yet.

Jury is still out IMHO.

Smallpox is a DNA virus thus does not mutate at the rate of RNA viruses. Apples and oranges.

Polio is a RNA virus but the current strains show: No symptoms 72%, Minor illness 24%, Nonparalytic aseptic meningitis 1–5%, Paralytic poliomyelitis 0.1–0.5% in children. Old school Polio was much worse. It did the easier spread less virulent thing.

HIV is RNA also but the antiretrovirals have screwed up its evolutionary pressures.

Viruses select for 1) not killing the host so they can spread. 2) not making the host so sick they can not go around spreading it.

That simple. Is Pharma suspect in this mess... yes 100%.

Are you so wrong that you make Joy Behar look like a MENSA member? Yep, 100%.

Should have mentioned Ebola.

I did mention centuries or millenia, so that slow mutation had plenty of time to show the alleged lessening of deadliness, perhaps missed. Polio recorded 1000s of yrs ago, had those 1000s of years to become less severe. Didn’t happen. Maybe it only needed another 50, but eradicated now.

Viruses don’t select at all. The process of mutation is Gaussian and to date no one has characterized the Q of the curve for any qualitative measure.

Then there is rabies.

That’s just what was said by a guest on the Lars Larsson show, he was interviewed because he had knowledge of epidemiology. I just relayed his message. Here is an article from zero hedge.com about the new variant not killing anyone (yet):
