ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — After briefly being the subject of a $10,000 manhunt, the parents of a teen who allegedly perpetrated a mass shooting at Oxford High School have been arraigned on criminal charges.

James R. Crumbley, 45, and Jennifer L. Crumbley, 43, on the morning of Saturday, Dec. 4, appeared before Oakland County District Judge Julie A. Nicholson for arraignment on four counts of involuntary manslaughter. The charge is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a $7,500 fine.

The prosecutor is a former judge, with her very own Wiki page.

It's like a Parkland 2.0 - enough red flags flying for a May Day parade at Tiananmen Square, but "The System" fails spectacularly yet again. Now comes the inevitable political exploitation and jousting.

I remember reading/hearing about that too. Pretty low bar for what constitutes that statistic. Firing off a cap pistol probably qualifies too.

Funny, that in a situation like this, of the school having information of what the teen, had written down and drawn, the gun, the blood, the bullet, the plea for help, etc., that was changed later by the teen, but was photographed by a teacher before the changes... that school seeing that photograph provided by the teacher, would not have had the SRO, the proactive step of asking the parents, Do you have guns at home?, and Do you keep them locked up?

That’s the part on the schools, the parents lack of input not withstanding, that I am most shocked about.

Even a search of the teens locker and backpack by the SRO would be called for in this instance.

The parents probably don’t have/won’t have much money after their legal fees to go after in civil suits.....

But oh, the School District has some money, probably capped by State Government Laws.

Milwaukee County DA John Chisholm set Darrell Brooks bail at just $1000.

Legit questions. Now it's a wait-and-see for info as to whom did - or didn't do - what. As we've seen through the years the "Zero Tolerance" policies the schools tout have spawned paranoia and punishment over pop tart guns, finger guns and drawings yet when confronted with a tangible threat, freeze up time and time again. It's a redundant kind of failure, probably because they don't want to get bagged for "discrimination" or harassment against a mentally ill person, which comes at the high price of gambling with the lives of the students they are responsible for.

While it might be prosecutorial overreach, the parents cannot say they were ‘blindsided’. The morning of the shooting the school confronted them with their kid’s notes and still refused to take him home with them.

Based on what we have seen in other high profile trials and events it is entirely possible that what the prosecutors have said turns out to be entirely untrue. Think of the Zimmerman or Rittenhouse trials, or the many news reports of MAGA hat wearing attackers who beat up Jesse Smollet.

Even if it is true, the school officials should have acted on the information they had if they really believed the kid was a danger to others. They could have simply sent him home, or called the police, or called an ambulance to have him taken for a psychiatric evaluation. They didn't though, so at the time they must have believed that it was safe to let the kid back into school.

The media and the prosecutor want to blame the parents because the mother tweeted out support for President Trump. Notice how nobody is asking for Darrell Brook's mother to be arrested for not keeping her son away from the car he drove through a parade.

They were idiots/now liable for not going straight home and pulling every gun out of the house and hiding them until the son got mental health treatment.

According to media reports that would not have had any effect. Reportedly the kid had already taken the gun and it was in his backpack during the discussion at the school.

The Prosecutor showed early she is out for the parents and the son. And she bypassed/uncoperated in communicating with the authorities by having a press briefing before the police briefing. Her briefing tried and convicted the parents and the son....and the media's been running with her story since... She's a fame seeker.

Had the school’s officials done what you asked, the crime would not have occurred. But could the officials done what you asked? We’ve been told (but of course cannot be sure) that the kid only got on the school’s radar because of a scary and depressing note. The parents refused to take him home when asked. The note did not appear to be a threat against anyone, but likely a plea for help. I assume the school showed the parents the note, but they still refused to get help for their kid.

I can’t imagine a school calling an ambulance to send a kid for an involuntary psychiatric evaluation—especially after the parents apparently said there was no problem.

I can imagine the school searching the kid for weapons, after the note the kid wrote. The school does have a metal detector. The school administration had a duty to insure that that kid, at that time, did knot have a weapon, a knife, or any weapon on him, or in his possession. This is not Rocket Science.
