Parents of Michigan shooter Ethan Crumbley go on the RUN after being charged with manslaughter for his school rampage that left 4: Prosecutors reveal they bought the 9mm handgun for him for CHRISTMAS

The parents of accused Michigan school shooter Ethan Crumbley are now on the run from police, just hours after a prosecutor announced involuntary manslaughter charges against them and revealed stunning details about the murder weapon that was a Christmas gift for the 15-year-old, whom police say shot dead four students after penning a disturbing note saying 'thoughts won't stop, help me.' Police have issued a 'be on the lookout alert' for James and Jennifer Crumbley, who were charged Friday with four counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with Tuesday's deadly shooting. The charge carries a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald alleged that the parents ignored multiple warning signs and refused to take their son out of school just hours before the shooting took place.

There is nothing wrong with a responsible 15 year old having a gun.
There is nothing wrong with a kid going shooting with his mother.
There is nothing wrong with a kid searching for ammunition on the internet.
EVERYONE should have taken that note VERY seriously including the parents and the school. I think the school was negligent at that point as well as the parents.

They’re both toast for that; and then to run?

As supporters of gun rights, one of our key arguments has always been that we’re in favor of using existing laws to punish people who commit crimes using guns.

If these parents didn’t take away the gun immediately on learning their kid was having violent thoughts of shooting people, they deserve what’s coming to them.

The parents’ lawyer said they were turning themselves in this morning, but did not, and are not communicating with him today.

I say, “Charge the school officials with being accessories to manslaughter.”

That would go a long way toward nipping these disturbed kids in the bud by making school officials liable when an event like this happens which was telegraphed AT SCHOOL in advance.

There have been no consequences for school officials who ignore the clear warning signs leading to such carnage.

Seeing clear evidence that their disturbed son (who they had just bought a pistol) was having serious homicidal and suicidal thoughts and crying out for help, they just walked away. Unreal.

Not that I’m familiar with the applicable laws, but it seems to me the school officials would have had a duty to act in these particular circumstances regardless of the parents’ desires. If so I wonder why that responsibility doesn’t result in school officials being charged prior to the parents. They left the kid in the responsible care of the school, and then he was left free to act! This looks like a sideshow to obscure the state’s responsibility.

Plus, the school wanted them to take there boy home, which they “resisted”.

A terrible situation, but the school officials should have required that they take him home. And they had the authority to do that through a suspension if they refused to cooperate.

“parents’ lawyer”

Thanks for the source.

This would be a pretty stupid stunt to pull.

However, I note the last line in the article “We would have liked to have been given a bit of advance notice that a warrant was coming”

So, given my complete lack of faith in the press, I’m going to hold out for more info before condemning them.

It could be they had already left and the lawyer screwed up by saying she could reach them immediately before actually knowing she couldn’t.

We’ll see. Not a good sign, but still can be a logistical thing.

I was curious about something, certainly not offering excuses.

Do you think it is in the public interest to know what drugs may have been messing with his mind?

Did a prescription drug make the parents buy their 15yr old a gun?

Did a prescription drug make the kids mom say “lol” when he was caught googling ammo in class and say not to get caught?

Did a prescription drug make the mom text her son saying “don’t do it”

Did a prescription drug ignore the warning signs about drawing pictures of dead kids?

Stop making excuses. Maybe he was maybe he wasn’t. That doesn’t have any impact on these awful parents being partly responsible and now on the run from the cops.

School officials everywhere are quick to hold parents accountable but DENY THEIR OWN DUTY TO REPORT such incidents to the police.

Schools have kicked kids out for JUST DRAWING A PICTURE OF A GUN on a piece of paper.

I can easily answer No to your 4 questions, and still want to know what drugs the kid and parents were likely on.

This is not an excuse for the kid or the parents.

Agree that the school SHOULD have sent him home, regardless of what the parents said. In fact, the kid should not have been allowed to return without seeing a counselor, psychologist or psychiatrist to evaluate his mental state.

But I don’t give the parents a break at all. I also doubt the school knew the boy had just been illegally given a pistol by his dad, and that would have set off a lot more alarm bells. Considering the note, this would have been a good time for the school to ask “Does Ethan have access to a gun”?
