A woman charged with reckless assault in the third degree after she drove her car through a Black Lives Matter protest in New York City last year has rejected a plea deal in favor of a trial she hopes will vindicate her of wrongdoing.
Kathleen Casillo, 53, who appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court on Wednesday, has claimed protesters surrounded her car and called her a “white privilege bitch” and started banging on the vehicle. Casillo told police she panicked and accidentally hit the gas pedal.

Unfortunately she has no Chance of winning in NYC.
And the police were nowhere to be found except at her front door afterwards.
I wish I could be on the jury.
So many people forget that jury trials are a right ensconced in the 6th amendment. People plea out thinking they won’t get a fair shake, but in reality, juries can be made to be sympathetic to this sort of crap.
In NY though... yeah...
Good for her. I bet she’ll have a damn good chance of getting a sympathetic jury to let her off, too.
Unfortunately, we no longer have equality before the law. Your race and politics matter.
James Fields was surrounded by Antifa at Charlottesville, beating on his car, threatening him. One Antifa pointed a rifle at him. Even admitted it at trial. Yet Fields was found guilty of murder for panicking and attempting to escape.
NYC just rejected the leftist mayoral candidate in favor of an ex-cop who promised to bring more law and order to the city. Yes, he’s still a Democrat, but that at least shows that a lot of voters in that city are tired of the crime. And also probably tired of protestors deliberately obstructing every day activity.
In this instance, in NYC, she is guilty until proven innocent.
I hope she can overcome our corrupt system and get off completely as justice would demand.
Jury trials may be a right, but corrupt prosecutors rig the system. Many people are deliberately over charged with crimes that have significant and mandatory imprisonment terms. Despite your innocence you are pressured to take a deal. The game the lawyers tell you is “you have a good case, but juries are unpredictable”. Your new to the system and cave, I experienced this first hand and regret my decision everyday. Plea bargains should be eliminated, if you are charged with a crime make them prove you did it. You would see how fast the prosecutors would stop their nonsense. And yes karma is a bitch for someone special who may be reading my posts!
No she don’t. She was screwed either way. She should have left NYC. The sun would not set on my ass in New York City. Or in New York State as far as that goes.
Government has failed us at every level. There is really no reason for anybody to abide any laws now.
Weird, the “car” drove through the parade in Waukesha, but here a women did the driving. Strange.....
We haven’t had a “Justice System” in 50+ years.
We had a very badly-broken “Legal System”.
True enough NYC has some f'ed up people "in" there, the jury could be a Rittenhouse mix.
EVERYone in NYC isn't a lefty.
I think I'd do the same thing, but it would be a self defense plea,
Casillo told police she panicked and accidentally hit the gas pedal.
What should be a proper defense was she was scared for her life and jammed the petal to the metal as any smart person would do.
Can I be on that jury and send in my vote by mail??
Ouch. Very well said.
James Fields was surrounded by Antifa at Charlottesville, beating on his car, threatening him.
As do previous statements showing intent.
Fields made plenty of racist comments online, and even talked about running people down with a vehicle, as I recall.
Yes, the trial was severely politicized.
If you make what can be interpreted as threats, and then get involved in a situation where it appears you were doing what you threatened; you are in deep trouble, even if you were justly provoked.
“ There is really no reason for anybody to abide any laws now.”
Yep. And that sword cuts two ways.
