This is the astonishing moment a teenage driver desperately waved for help out of her window as a semi-truck dragged her car sideways along a Chicago highway.
Footage recorded on Tuesday at around 11:40 a.m. by a motorist travelling on Interstate 294 northbound, in Cook County near milepost 30.25, shows clouds of dust rising from beneath the truck as it travelled along the road, pulling a 2005 black Honda Accord with it.

If the driver had been vaxxed, this never would have happened!
“Just wow. I grew up when Truck drivers were the best. I’m afraid of the new crop”
Driver should have felt that tug hard on the trailer instantly, it would have felt like trailer brakes locking up. Or like the Johnson handle being pulled.
How could there be a refugee from Puerto Rico? It’s part of the U.s.
Truck driver here. The cops should be able to figure out which driver drifted into the other. I have an assumption based on what I frequently see happening out there, but we’ll see. I’ll bet you a quarter that the car driver was passing the tractor-trailer on the right.
Blind spot isn’t an issue. That section of the trailer side is visible in the plane and/or spotter mirror.
It makes an exciting headline, but I’m not buying that the truck driver doesn’t know there’s a car under his trailer. Can’t make out the trailer brake lights, but the fact that cars are passing him on both sides shows that he has already slowed down. That mess is taking up two lanes. The obvious three options he has (stopping dead in the center lanes or swerving left or right at any considerable speed) each has a high risk of instantly escalating to carnage...and likely spreading it to other vehicles. He’s watching that mess, slowing down, and having to eyeball what’s ahead and coming up on the sides—including the friggin cell-phone-cameraman-while-driving idiot getting close to nab the perfect footage.
It’ll be interesting to see what the accident investigators piece together.
Incomprehensible to me how a parent maintains a functional level of sanity with kids like this.
First, “Boomers” used this way is derogatory and seems to overlook that those same Boomers probably brought you into this world. For that I will forgive them, though. You’re just developed into jerk on your own.
Second, I do understand the comments about (illegal) immigration but did you know that Puerto Rico is a territory of the US? Agreed, that the New Guinians not so much. Were they legal or illegal, you didn’t bother to say...
Have a lovely day Friend.
Easy there, Afterguard, you’re getting down to the bottom of the coffee pot, sure, but it was decaf. You need a fresh pot so that idiot s don’t get under your skin.
***I grew up when Truck drivers were the best.***
Not necessarily. I remember driving a two lane crooked road in Oklahoma Hwy 33, Looked into my rear view mirror and saw nothing but the words WILLIS SHAW EXPRESS spelled backwards. He was eating my back bumper. I had to hit a dirt side road doing 60 MPH to get him off my tail.
The PN story was definitely refugee. Something about a civil war on the island? Her family was actually Philipino, I believe?
Amen to that.
They are not kidding.
What is it with drivers these days?! Where I am, the shoulder area is seen as another lane. Did they forget that one is supposed to pass on the left?
Thanks for the info.
Weird how her tires are not making any skid marks on the pavement in that still shot. It looks like there may be a little rubber left on the tire but maybe it is just a shadow.
Yes. My wife sold something on eBay this week, printed up a shipping label for Carolina, PR. Then discovered it meant Puerto Rico and not in the eastern states. Thought she specified the sale was only for within the USA. Oops, it is part of the USA. She shipped it today and hopes it gets there okay.
The trucker didn’t need to be signalled, most likely he was trying to carefully and very slowly bring the whole mess to a stop without doing something sudden that could cause the car or trailer to change position, all the while looking for the safest place to stop. Maybe even calling for other truckers or police to help avert traffic while he does it. Surely people don’t expect the trucker to slam on the brakes or do anything suddenly in such a situation?
Watch the full video again.
26 seconds of video, and the truck maintains the same speed for at least the full 26 seconds of the video, and who knows how much longer that wasn't on video.
He didn't attempt to slow down.
Semi tractors now days don’t have a “ Johnson handle”
Does not take away that the semi driver is an idiot.
I know... Was wondering if anyone even knew what a Johnson bar/handle was. But it is a good comparison to what that driver would have felt. Guess I should have said “like pulling A Johnson handle” rather than “pulling THE Johnson handle”.
