Alabama GOP Senate candidate Lynda Blanchard to switch races and run for governor

Republican Lynda Blanchard plans to end her Alabama US Senate bid and instead run for governor, according to three people familiar with the matter. She is expected to announce her campaign against GOP Gov. Kay Ivey next week.

Blanchard served as then-President Donald Trump's US ambassador to Slovenia, former first lady Melania Trump's native country. She was a major donor to Trump and loaned her Senate campaign over $5 million.

The Blanchard campaign declined requests for comment.

CNN reported last week that Trump has met with Blanchard and has been receptive to the prospect of her running for governor. Trump has told associates he blames Ivey for the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park Commission's decision to prevent him from holding a pre-July 4 rally over the summer at the state-owned facility.

Blanchard's Senate campaign has lagged that of Rep. Mo Brooks, whom Trump endorsed, and Katie Boyd Britt, a former chief of staff to Sen. Richard Shelby, who is retiring in 2022 and supports Britt's campaign for his seat.

Good news! She'll quickly get an endorsement from Trump and Kay Ivey will either retire or be toast.

Blanchard and Brooks should barnstorm Alabama together.

They know Mo Brooks will win that Senate seat. I’ve had dinner with him. Yeah, he’s a politician, but he’s not the RINO that Katie Britt is. And we need fewer women in politics, anyway. The time for us to emote our way through problems is OVER.

When Roy Moore submitted proof of election machine fraud in his court case the judge threw it out without looking at it. That was the harbinger of near future massive election machine fraud across the country.

How is Alabama going to stop election machine fraud in this race?

Switch races?

Is she going to pull a Rachel Dolezal and identify as Black?

Roy Moore went out of state to a ball game the weekend before the election. That coupled with all of the other nonsense he’s said and done over the years, he’s hardly to be taken seriously.

OK, so you have nothing to say about the actual lawsuit, got it.

Yea, that’s basically RC’s mode of operation.

Kay Ivey (current governor) has been very late to the show on lockdowns (compared to other southern governors) and I’m not sure that Trump was too pleased when she refused to let him hold his event in Mobile next to the battleship — at the last minute.

Trump won the state by around 63% in the last two elections. If he comes out and endorses Blanchard it would surely stir up this election.

On the other hand, Ivy has not made any huge blunders BUT most in the state understand she is like Biden. She’s too old to be calling the shots. She’s got a group of advisors making all the decisions and sending her out to make the announcement.
