Haley: Diversifying puts GOP in best position to lead (Nikki McRomBush)

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley drew on her native South Carolina’s struggles with racist violence during her time as governor, arguing Thursday that the Republican Party is best positioned to lead the country alongside a continued diversification of its ranks.

“Our message is the right message,” she said during a speech in Charleston. “It’s a message of hope, a message of faith — faith in ourselves and our country. The more we spread that message, the more people we’ll add to the Republican tent.”

Haley’s remarks came at The Citadel, where a Republican group made her the first woman to receive its highest honor. The potential 2024 presidential contender and former South Carolina governor received the Nathan Hale Patriot Award, an honor that comes along with a replica Revolutionary War musket. Previous recipients include Donald Trump in 2015 — before he was president — as well as former White House adviser Steve Bannon in 2018 and then-Vice President Mike Pence last year.

Every word out of this woman's mouth comes from some consultant's handbook.

Notice how the journalist suggests that at an irreducible fraction of the Republican party is racist, when the problem with racism as everyone who truly pays attention to these things is to be found among Democrats, and, most regrettably, typically among the highest leadership of that historically racist party.

Blacks have had over 50 years since LBJ’s comment, and they’re still 90+% voting for Democrats.
They deserve what they get and seem incapable of joining civil society.

The consultants she is listening to are not entirely wrong. There is a lot of minority out reach that could be conducted by simply showing up and asking for their votes. Example would be as simple as translating your campaign materials into Ethiopian to hand out in neighborhoods where the are significant numbers of immigrants from Ethiopia.

What has been done to explain how conservative policies will benefit those diverse minorities? Most of what I hear about is done with no support from the RNC (often seems to be either ignored or actually opposed)

It is not a tent if everyone is inside. That’s a bazaar.

Arguably this is a function of them thinking, Why should I vote for “Democrat-lite”?

Republican so-called “leaders” need to fight back, visibly so and instinctually. If they don’t grow spines and start behaving like Trump they are paving the way for continued electoral disappointment at the hands of crooked, racist Democrats.

The problem with big tent politics is where the stick the pole.

Republicans only throw jabs, and only from their heels.

Personally I think they should fight back, but without the NYC attitude. It turns off too many people. You can be a fighter and win without essentially getting into cat fights and pissing contests. That’s why I like DeSantis.

Hard pass. In a world where Trump and/or DeSantis exist, another RINO is simply unelectable.

“You can be a fighter and win without essentially getting into cat fights and pissing contests.”

Well, this is encouraging!

More than one way for Republicans to win?

The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades.

Don’t these people realize the GOP is Trump’s party and not theirs. They are the ones who helped put this country in the mess it is and they have no clue how to get it back on track.
Wish they would just go away.

What you’re suggesting is exactly what Trump did. Ciostantly. He ended with, “What have you got to lose?” And it worked, drawing in huge percentages of blacks and Hispanics.

Binary thought is for babies and animals.

Many FReepers fall into this thought process.

They” deserve what they get and seem incapable of joining civil society.”

I think they’re capable; they’re just not so inclined. Look at the ads for black shows on TV, shows like Jerry Springer, etc. They glory in their incivilities.

Diversity in the workplace by law based on skin color is destruction of the workplace.

If the workplace becomes diverse because the best people with the best work ethic are hired for the job then common sense wins.

Diversifying must be the current word for caving in. For a long time they just called it bipartisanship.

I can’t keep up with the changing political terms these days.
