Biden picks less strict COVID travel rules than feared, makes insurance cover rapid tests

President Biden on Thursday will announce a COVID-19 “winter plan” that imposes new, but less strict than feared, international travel rules and mandates that health insurance companies pay for at-home COVID-19 rapid tests.

Air travelers to the US will have to test negative within one day of their flight, rather than within three days, but Biden opted against more draconian ideas reportedly under review amid fears about the potentially more contagious Omicron variant.

Biden’s team had considered forcing US citizens to do seven days of mandatory self-quarantine after returning from abroad and requiring them to test negative three to five days after arrival under threat of legal punishment, according to the Washington Post.

“What a complete joke.”

Insurance premiums will rise for consumers due to the “free” rapid Covid tests.

when was the president given the absolute power to decide what is and isn’t in private health insurance companies policies?

guess that also means that some future president can simply ‘order’ private insurance companies to not pay for abortions, or gender reassignment surgeries.

the administration (did not) specify how the rule would be enforced, what the potential consequences for violations would be, or who would be responsible for ensuring compliance.

I keep saying, international tourist travel is done. You can still go if you want, but they have raised the nuisance and aggravation of air travel to the point where it’s no longer fun - especially for an overseas flight.

I considered that as well. How can he “make” insurance companies cover anything?

You beat me to it. This is example number one million that we live under an Imperial Presidency. Biden didn’t start this. He’s just carrying it to extremes.

I was in Mexico last week. You can literally get a COViD test on the sidewalk outside of the terminal. I had carried my own tests with me so I didn’t use the service at the airport. The service we used had an app that the airline recognized. They look at the app, check your ID and put a sticker on your passport. After that there is no check. I was rather surprised how easy it was. I recovered from COViD early in the year so I am still unvaxxed. Nobody cared. It is now endemic and not pandemic.

Exactly!

We need to refer to it as RobertsCare, as often as we call it 0bamaCare.

mandates that health insurance companies pay for at-home COVID-19 rapid tests

Under what authority?

The insurance companies will get together with the test providers and medical distributors. The test providers will be guaranteed a $10 payment for a $5 kit. The distributors will charge the insurance companies $100 for each kit, with a provision that they kick back $90 to the insurance companies. So the insurance companies will collect 18 times the actual cost for each kit sold, the distributors and makers double the cost and your insurance rates will go up multiples of $100.

This is how American health care works.

I am of the opinion that if you are required to get a vaccine to work (mandate) and there is a valide medical reason for not getting the vaccine, you should be granted disability status. Further, be allowed to take advantage of the disability protections, both short term and long term, your work place provides.
