Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf on Monday revealed plans to reverse cuts to the city's police department and seek to hire more officers amid a spike in violence and homicides.
The decision makes Oakland the latest city to bolster its support for law enforcement after several cities that committed to defunding the police in the wake of George Floyd's murder in 2020 experienced a considerable rise in violent crime.

Really, can anyone (with sense) believe the level of stupidity in the elected positions. Those charged with managing some of the greatest cities are dumb as a bag of hammers.
If they murdered a security guard they are not a “smash and grab” mob. They are accomplices to felony murder. Some of them better come forward and cut a deal now.
Finally, Mayor Libby awakens to the situation she helped to create. Finally, she is ready to admit it was a harebrained idea to start with.
I began to feel this way when I saw an episode of the TV series Cops, where police put themselves in harm's way (jumping in front of a fleeing car) and shooting the driver, claiming "self defense". Shooting the tires, I could see. And not just shooting the driver, multiple cops emptying their clips...
My tagline says it all. These fools are just now figuring out what anyone with a functioning brain knew would happen before the defunding even happened.

This surprising move by Oakland leaders may be too little, too late but on the surface putting more police on the streets with loaded guns to oppose brazen, violent criminals sounds like a good idea.
Especially if they scab-on a midnight basketball program.
1. Libby is the dumbest person ever to be mayor - including Ron Dellums, who was mentally addled.
2. Murders are up almost double from last year, and crime is rampant in formerly safe areas.
3. Libby had to do this - if police staffing falls below a certain level (and they are very very close) the City cannot tap the bond money from a parcel tax levied a few years ago.

Oakland has been a third world sh!thole for as long as I can remember. These are the people who keep reelecting Democrats, so I guess they like it that way.

"Defund the Police" was always about purging the ranks and replacing them with more obedient minions. The new recruits will be selected using much lower and different standards than the staff they replaced.
Basically, ANTIFA members with badges.
