My brother filled a couple of garbage bags with acetylene once.

I filled a milk jug with acetylene and OXYGEN! from a cutting torch.

I ran a 10' piece of conduit into it and lit the faraway end.

Made a whistling noise as it zipped down the pipe.

Made a BIG! boom when it got to the jug!

(Did I mention I was behind a 4*8 sheet of plywood at the time?)

It left a 1" deep impression of the jug in the ground and a loss of hearing for a while.

Yeah.

Pure acetylene burns with a really oily-looking, carbon-rich, sooty flame.

this sounds more like someone looking to take advantage of a nation without a real leader.

Open borders allows all sorts of bad actors to waltz right in. Brandon can accept blame for all the chaos.

There’s a difference between the TV shows ‘Ridiculousness’ and ‘Mythbusters’.

What was he shooting at?

I downloaded the gif and enlarged the frames, but it is too low res to make it out.

Yep, he did look a little funny dancing out of the way after the door flew past. That oh crap! look on his face is priceless.

I’ve seen the clip many times. The first was on the TV show Ridiculousness, a show dedicated to pulling clips off the internet of people doing stupid stuff.

I did something similar.

I used to go caving - back in the day when you used carbide lamps.

A 3-4 foot piece of pipe - open at both ends.

A wet towel on ground, a touch hole near the bottom, a wire shield to keep the ball from sliding all the way to the towel.

Toss in chunk of carbide, then the ball.

Timing was iffy due to needing the right ratio of gas to air in the pipe.

Then balls went REALLY high all right!

(I’ve no idea where to get Calcium Carbide these days...)

Uh, no.

Tannerite is a very low energy explosive. more for show than for go. Sandy soil or not, one would have to have a massive tannerite bomb to achieve reported results.

“Pure acetylene burns with a really oily-looking, carbon-rich, sooty flame.”

I imagine an oxy-acetylene mix would make a real bang. I light my torch (I braze with it) with a little oxygen on. Bang! Scares the onlookers.

Not sure what he was shooting at ... looked almost like part of a refrigerator door flying back at him.

“How could you tell?”

I’ve seen it on a big screen TV, made it easy to tell what it was.

First I am hearing about it. I know nothing about explosives, boats, or that particular region.

But from the line of the shore to the crater, is it possible the explosion was a mistake? i.e., an off-loading error?

Displaying my ignorance...Any explosives that sensitive?

On purpose or mistake, it doesn’t look like the perps were up to any good.

As kid back in the 50’s & 60’s, I would help my grandfather and father dynamite tree stumps, rocks, beaver dams, etc. I remember my grandfather pick up a sweating stick of DuPont 40% Red Cross dynamite and wipe up a drop of nitro then flick it onto our concrete driveway. It would pop like a firecracker. He would also crimp the caps onto the fuse with his teeth. I thought this was a little extreme, but he was 70+ years old so he must have known what he was doing.

When I helped my grandfather and father dynamite back then, my favorite was to blow a beaver dam. They would blow a length of the dam, then it was my job to pick up as many fish as possible that were being washed thru the gap. We always had fish for supper that night, even if they were sorta flat on one side.

https://i.gifer.com/A43t.gif is the URL that was posted.

I loaded it into a GIF editor and enlarged the frames.

I could not tell just what the target was.

It seemed to have no depth in the first few frames before the explosion.

A moving image on a bigger screen would not have aided my inspection of THIS file.

Perhaps there is a higher resolution one out there somewhere.

Until they release any more information on residue or parts found from the explosion, anything said is pure speculation. But I have a feeling that if the corrupt FBI is in on the investigation, it’ll go down the memory hole. Just like they covered-up TWA 800 being shot down, in July 1996, with the Klintoons.
