Climate 'overwhelming' driver of Australian bushfires: study

Sydney (AFP) – Climate change is the "overwhelming factor" driving the country's ever-more intense bushfires, Australian government scientists believe -- directly contradicting claims by the country's political leaders.

In a peer-reviewed study, scientists at state agency CSIRO reviewed 90 years' worth of data and concluded climate change was the major influencing factor behind megafires like those that ravaged Australia in 2019-2020.

The experts studied a range of fire risk factors -- from the amount of dead vegetation on the ground to moisture, weather and ignition conditions -- to see what could be driving catastrophic blazes.

"While all eight drivers of fire activity played varying roles in influencing forest fires, climate was the overwhelming factor driving fire activity," said CSIRO chief climate research scientist Pep Canadell.

In recent years Australia has experienced a litany of climate-worsened droughts, bushfires and floods.

But the country's government has avoided setting a short term emissions reduction target and has vowed to remain one of the world's largest coal and gas exporters.

Well, nothing to be done about it. I guess they’ll have to abandon Australia, then.

Hang on. After it tips over, the fires will be extinguished and then everything can go back to normal

Australian government scientists that live in Australia never noticed their climate before

Well, isn’t there a continent wide lockdown? Who will fight the “climate driven” wild fires? Only vaccinated fire fighters?

All other scientists who did not agree with these results were shot. So the consensus is unanimous.

Everything bad is due to made-made Climate Change. Everybody knows that.

On a related note, I can’t find my car keys. I’m sure that’s somehow due to Climate Change. If Congress had only listed to Al Gore 20 years ago I’d be on my way to the store by now.

Looking from the scores of average mates protesting in Australia I think it’s safe to say that few Australians put any faith in their government’s “science”.

Bushfires were always a part of the Australian ecology.

Suppression of bushfires damages the environment.

Total, 100% unmitigated BULLSH!T. Just more climate science, or more accurately climate unscience, all articles like this are pure propaganda.

"CSIRO reviewed 90 years' worth of data...The experts studied a range of fire risk factors -- from the amount of dead vegetation on the ground to moisture, weather and ignition conditions -- to see what could be driving catastrophic blazes."

The study is here, and says in part,

There are four components that drive fire activity: weather that influences fire spread, ignition sources, biomass accumulation (fuel loads), and dryness of fuel loads (fuel availability)2,7.
Fire ignition factors in Australia include multiple anthropogenic and natural sources. The primary natural cause is lightning, particularly that known as “dry lightning”,
Fuel loads and trends, as effected by climate, human activity and time since the last disturbance, also play a role in determining fire risk25,26. This link is a central motivation for using prescribed burning to reduce fuel availability27, which in Australia is managed through changes in the frequency of prescribed burns28

However, while human prescribed burns in forest management is cited, nowhere did I see the effect of a growing population as a significant cause, both in accidental fires as well as vandalism, as well as in increased reporting. Just how many fire were caused by humans and went unreported in the past going back 90 years versus the modern era? But being peer reviewed by "experts" (which I think is an increasingly abused catch-all phrase) are we to question such?

They have rounded up the aboriginal folks and dumped them in camps so they can steal their lands rich with minerals.

So, essentially they say, climate has an influence on everything, therefore "climate change" is the major driver of wildfires?

It is a huge, illogical jump.

In the same class of “experts” as Fauci?

Yep. Just as I thought.

The fix is the same as here in CaCaLand. Clean up the crappola lying about under the trees. THAT is what spreads the inevitable small fire.

If we just did away with climates we would not have all these disasters.

It seems like according to the algorithm used in Climatology religion then everything negative can be and is caused by omnipotent Climate Change.

And here I was thinking the drift in the South magnetic pole and attendant shift in solar driven weather patterns was the main driver.

I guess that’s the curse of a good education...
