Hmmmmm, a Russian built MIG-31 being upgraded to be 3 times more capable, lets see, that should make it a good match for a late model Vietnam era F-4 Phantom II, as long as “Cartman” isn’t flying the F-4, but even then it would probably be a close call.
Them were the good ol days.
Putin does not need to steal anything — Biden will get it for him
It’s a fourth generation fighter, so the net effect of improving its availability will be presenting our 5th generation fighters more targets to choose from.
Yep... one trick pony. Well, two if you count recce.
“It’s a fourth generation fighter, so the net effect of improving its availability will be presenting our 5th generation fighters more targets to choose from.”
I know our “male” pilots are being taught how to scramble in heels. First lesson is which color heel to choose from. The second lesson is how fast they can get their vax passes out of their purses.
The Soviets used a Cray Super Computer to upgrade their weapons systems. Jimmah Cahtah loaned one to them under the guise that they would use to modernize their automotive industry.
Except it wasn’t. The difference between airframes is slim though.
They’re upgrade means instead of refined fuel it now uses unfiltered old deep fryer oil. The fuel spray nozzles have been removed from the line so the fry oil chunks won’t clog the nozzles.
it is one of the few combat aircraft built primarily using stainless steel.
(Because The Skunkworks used most of the Ruskie Titanium to build Our A-12/SR-71’s©️™️🤣)
The first prototype flew in 1964 and the aircraft entered service in 1970. It has an operational top speed of Mach 2.83. Although its thrust was sufficient to reach Mach 3.2+, its speed was limited to prevent engines from overspeeding at higher air speeds and possibly damaging them beyond repair.
“should make it a good match for a late model Vietnam era F-4 Phantom II”
How about the SU-57? What western fighter eould you match it up against? Do you feel that “fifth generation” correctly characterizes the Felon?
Russian radars can see "stealth" fighters particularly since most are only sort of stealthy like the F-35 and Grippen 3
This page has some of that info :
AirForce technology: MiG-31 Foxhound Interceptor Aircraft
Will the refit still fire missiles that track and kill other 31s? So far as I know the only 31s ever shot down were shot down by another 31.
With upgraded engines, the MiG -31 could operate at it’s Mach 3.2 potential top speed and very high altitudes for long enough to facilitate the launch profile of Russia’s purported nuclear powered hyper sonic missile. Maybe a few other types precision stand off missiles, including conventional hypersonic and ASAT types, where a very high speed, high altitude delivery platform provides an enabling role or confers a significant tactical advantage. This would explain the otherwise inexplicable upgrade of an otherwise obsolete air frame. Think a fleet of 300+ combat aircraft with performance roughly comparable to that of an SR-71 armed with effective, very long range standoff weapons for potential tactical employments. Our current air defense systems would be challenged by the aircrafts abiity to evade or outrun them by sheer speed, distance and altitude combined with modern counter measures alone. No low observables needed. They are stout aircraft and built to last forever. Cockroaches will be flying them long after we have exited stage right if the Russians do proper upgrade .
In fact, the engine myth was stipulated by the defector Belenko who used it to explain why his “P” version was redlined at Mach 2.8.
If you’d look into the engine, which is particularly huge, you can camp in the combustion chamber.
Mig-25 was never tested for top speed for safety reasons but is likely capable of Mach 3.5.
According to manuals, the operation at high speed is not recommended due to excessive wear on a relatively crude airframe. The problem was also the overheating of fuel and armament cook-off due to air friction.
For the above reasons, it wasn’t recommended to exceed Mach 2.8 on regular patrol missions but the rule didn’t apply for combat situations.
