Look, I agree with the author but there is no COVID “cult”. Cults are small groups that blindly follow their leader (e.g., Jim Jones). What we have is bureaucracies, not cults. People are socialized into bureaucracies to conform. Max Weber, the sociologist who invented the term bureaucracy described them as “iron cages”. 100 years ago Weber was worried that bureaucracies would turn into what they have today (deep state, big pharma, school districts, big corporations). The central facets of bureaucracies is they are self-perpetuating and impervious to reform, based on a secret that legitimates their power (CIA, CDC, etc.), and totalistic - meaning they want to control your politics and now your health and body. Sociologist Irving Goffman called them Total Institutions - prisons, monasteries, re-education camps, etc. have now morphed into capitalistic corporations that have control over your body, health and are now your doctor. Public school bureaucracies are now Total Institutions. COVID is “cult” like in that it is the marker of bureaucratic conformity.
As for the authors statement about personality cult, NAZIism may have been a personality “cult” but Hilter was fighting precisely the same unseen agents that hide behind Communism and manipulative Big Banks, both buying off the media, that America is now “plagued” with. Hitler hated the Communists and big banks.
The author mentions Hannah Arendt. Arendt was a self-described Holocaust survivor who fled to US, became a Critical Race Theorist (then called The Frankfurt School), and blamed the German and American working classes for NAZSism. But it was the German working class that was fighting Communism and big European banks. Arendt was against authoritarianism and twisted this to mean the independent working class that followed Hitler. Arendt was an intellectual who believed that only members of the Knowledge Class (or Knowledge Cult) knew enough to control a society. Arendt would be a member of the COVID cult.

This day, I am thankful I live in Alaska. Many/most people here are very independant minded.
Myself, for example, came from a highly religious area. A lot of social pressure to go to church, and you better choose well. You and your kids better go to these certain schools. If you don’t you won’t be part of the “club” so to speak.
In Alaska, I have none of that pressure. I researched and thru the leading of the Spirit, returned to Church later on. My kids can go to any school they want, no pressure.

1) They separate themselves - Check (COVIDidans don’t want to be around non-vaxxed people)
2) Dress Differently for instant identification - Check - They wear masks even when driving alone in the car - virtue signaling they belong to the Cult of Covidian.
3) Look down on those outside of the cult

If you believe big pharma developed the vaccines that poison and kill their customers as a means to increase their profits, then you’re member of the anti-vaxxer cult.
If you believe that you’re smarter than those who choose to be vaccinated, then you’re a member of the anti-vaxxer cult.
If you believe the vaccines are more deadly than the virus, then you’re a member of the anti-vaxxer cult.
If you believe that millions of health care workers are part of a conspiracy to hide the ‘truth’ about the pandemic and the vaccines, then you’re a member of the anti-vaxxer cult.
If you believe the vaccines are not effective because they do not provide 100% effective protection from the virus, then you’re a member of the anti-vaxxer cult.
The list goes on.

You are projecting. I made no such claims as the myriad of claims you made.
I DO make the claim that I don’t like to buy an engine the first year it comes out, be a guinea pig for a new treatment or surgery, or participate in a “study”.
I have NOT have ill health effects in the 18+ months of the so-called pandemic, so WHY would i take a vaccination for something that does not affect, and had not affected me in the least? Why risk my health by being on the first wave? It makes NO LOGICAL SENSE.
IF we ARE in a pandemic, then why can we afford to fire 10-15% or more of the front line healthcare workers for not being vaccinated? That makes no logical sense either. I suppose you vilify them as well, the very people who put their lives on the line to save other’s butts. My wife is a RN. She won’t get the vaccine either, as she has seen too many issues with it.
Take your straw man fear based arguments elsewhere.
