Manchin calls on Biden to restore Keystone XL pipeline

Centrist Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is calling on President Biden to restore the Keystone XL pipeline as gas prices across the country rise.

"I continue to call on President Biden to responsibly increase energy production here at home and to reverse course to allow the Keystone XL pipeline to be built which would have provided our country with up to 900,000 barrels of oil per day from Canada, one of our closest allies," Manchin said in a Tuesday statement, according to the Gazette in Colorado Spring, Colorado.

"To be clear, this is about American energy independence and the fact that hard-working Americans should not depend on foreign actors, like OPEC+, for our energy security and instead focus on the real challenges facing our country's future," he added.

Machin's call for action came shortly after the Biden administration announced a plan on Tuesday to release 50 million barrels of oil from the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve in order to curb rising gas prices, the news outlet noted.

In February, Manchin reportedly sided with Republicans who urged Biden to rethink canceling a presidential permit for the pipeline, arguing that pipelines across the country "continue to be the safest mode to transport our oil and natural gas resources, and they support thousands of high-paying, American union jobs.″

Manchin also addressed the issue of inflation in the country last week, mentioning his belief that the Democrats' Build Back Better Act, which was recently passed by the House and will be taken up in the Senate, would not help lower prices.

“The cost they see every day. And every day they go to fill up is a dollar and a quarter more a gallon,” he said of rising gas prices at the time. “Three twenty-nine, $3.39.”

“A gallon of milk is now $4 in many places. It’s taking a toll. And I hear it when I go to the grocery store or if I go to the gas station. They say, ‘Are you as mad as I am?’ and I say, ‘Absolutely,’ ” Manchin continued.

Biden has expressed his views on ending American dependence on fossil fuel.

"This is the decade that will determine the answer. This decade," he said during an international climate summit earlier this month, the Gazette noted. "The science is clear: We only have a brief window left before us to raise our ambitions and ... to meet the task that's rapidly narrowing."

flip the U.S. Senate. You can do that

He could, but I suspect someone in the bowels of the DNC has goat or little-boy pics that can be used against him.

Yep!

There’s fixing to be another wave of oil to hit the markets here in a few months. Once the prices got back up the drilling has fired back up and we’ll see the results of that soon. Might also mention that many of the wells that were drilled when the prices were down were never fraced due to the cost. Here in the Permian Basin the activity has increased considerably. Big Frac jobs and Horizontal wells are happening all over. From the main gate of the ranch I can see 4 rigs drilling right now and several new locations being built.

Constantly. The Obama Administration was using it as a manual for what to do (as in, they used the horrific government behavior depicted in the book as a how-to guide.)

I doubt that Canada will agree with the renewal of the pipeline.

Canada will have the opinion of “Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice.....”

And, I don’t blame them!!!

He’s right, and you’ve also got OPEC considering cutting production to prevent the price from lowering due to various strategic supplies being released. Just what we don’t need is to get in the middle of Winter only to be left high and dry.

Its one thing to say you want to switch us all to electric, and quite another thing when entire economies like Saudi Arabia and Russia are very dependent on fossil fuel production. You can’t just go swanning about, “look at me, I’m great because I’m going to save the world,” without actually having a plan A, B, and C that takes such things into account.

The problem with Canada is that all the votes are in the greater Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver areas.
The oil comes from AB & SK where there are not a lot of people.

They have preservationists just like in the US. The liberals in the big cities have way more votes than the people in fly over country. It is not even close. So, the selling of oil does little to benefit the people who live in these metro areas.

I also believe the expansion of the existing pipeline that goes to Vancouver has already been approved.
It was supposed to double the diameter of the existing pipeline along the current ROW.

The problem with the Vancouver line is that you can not load a supertanker where the pipeline ends. So, they have to load onto a smaller ship and then transload to a supertanker anchored out in the sound. It adds more cost.

The TransCanada pipeline is supposed to go directly to the Pacific Ocean coast. Once there it can be loaded on the supertankers that cross the ocean.
This pipeline will also benefit the refineries on the west coast of the US in CA, OR & WA. They primarily get their oil from Alaska now. So, when the Canadian pipeline is finished it will lower the value of oil on the west coast. I suspect the companies in Alaska are not thrilled about that.

Since Biden shut down the pipeline from Canada, Ive noticed a huge increase in oil tanker cars heading south on the KCS/Canadian Pacific railroad going past our house.

BIDEN is too stupid to restore the Keystone Pipeline. He is one of the dumbest democrats I have ever seen. He will not do it even though it would cure most of the problems he has created.

Wow, he is to the Right of over a half of the Repubs

Sadly, you are 100% correct. Now guess from which half the WV GOP picks its US Senate candidates and you might understand one of the reasons for Manchin's recurring elections.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
If you believe the “Red Wave” talk pertaining to NOV 2022, then Manchin’s position of leverage has an expiration date. Now is his best and only real moment of significance. So far he hasn’t effed up. It will be interesting to see what he does going forward.

Manchin seems to have a tendency to think rationally once in awhile, and at some point he just might come to the conclusion that he’s rubbing shoulders with the domestic enemy, and bid the ‘rats farewell.
