San Francisco to limit car access to Union Square after Louis Vuitton theft

Cars will be restricted in San Francisco's Union Square after a shocking incident of retail theft on Friday night.

The San Francisco Police Department said in a statement it responded to reports of possible looting and vandalism at several retail establishments, including the Louis Vuitton store, at 8:10 p.m. Additional officers were called to the scene to address reports of crime. The alleged thieves smashed windows, leaving piles of shattered glass across the sidewalk of the store that's adjacent to the Macy's department store.

Burberry, Bloomingdale's and Yves Saint Laurent, among other retailers, were also targeted, police said.

Saturday afternoon, Mayor London Breed and Police Chief Bill Scott held a press conference to condemn the thieves and announce coming changes to Union Square in the wake of the incident.

"We’re going to making some changes to Union Square and how cars are able to access," Breed said. "There will be limited access in terms of when you come to this area."

> Union Square is just one place with stores. There are hundreds of others in San Fran.

Don’t allow traffic near any stores. It’ll be great for business!

“CARS didn’t steal anything”.

Statistics say all the cars used in the robberies were stolen. Portland has added a twist. After using the stolen vehicle for robberies they abandon it somewhere. Then a catalytic converter thief shows up in another stolen vehicle and steals the catalytic converter from the first stolen vehicle.

It was the cars to blame after all. Gollllyyyyy.
That’s why they’re law enforcement and government and we’re keyboard warriors on a forum.

Next: Viral local news video shows the moment the shoplifters’ helicopter raises the cables to pull the crate of stolen merchandise up and away.

Police have no suspects. They are reaching out and asking the community to help.

Yup, that will definitely cut down on crime.

Make life as miserable as possible for law abiding people and the criminals will realize the folly of their ways.

Why not just enforce the law?

The stores will leave the area. Not profitable to operate there.

Whoa, hold on there.
You mean laws are passed, go on the books, and now you expect law enforcement officers to, well, to actually enforce the law and arrest the criminals?

Worth a try.

Why not just enforce the law?

Maybe because it would expose the fact that a certain demographic is overrepresented among the suspects? And exposure of that fact would run counter to the Marxist narrative that the elites are trying so hard to promote?

Now we know how to get the attention of the democrat establishment in SF.

Hit elite luxury establishments. THEN the pols will notice.

The two east-west streets on each side of Union Square are the main corridors for the people who work in the downtown office buildings.

I lived in SFO for 16 years and made that daily commute by Union Square to our downtown office building.

Closure of these Union Square streets also impacts the commuters coming in from Marin County.

Gee, maybe actually charging, and locking up criminals would help to stem the flow of these, and other types of crimes.

Just heard that New York State will be closing six correctional facilities around the State in March of next year. One is a maxi-maxi. The reason the prison population has dropped is because they aren't incarcerating repeat offenders anymore. I was a New York State officer, then Sergeant in this prison system for 25 years. In the late 80's, there was a surge in prison population, to the point that several medium-security facilities had inmates double-bunked in their gymnasiums for approximately two years. They built more prisons because of it. Crime certainly hasn't gone down, but making people pay for their crimes has. With the uncontrolled influx of criminals coming over the border, and Biden bringing terrorists in from Afghanistan, this country isn't going to be worth the powder to blow it up.

And I am sure the folks at the Westin St Francis Hotel are happy as hell that the Union Square streets will be blocked off.

Costco requires membership to get in to their stores.

Just make all upscale stores "members only", and hire security to enforce it. One condition for membership should be a good credit rating.
