Another self defense case, Andrew Coffee found not guilty on 5 counts, including murder, attempted murder

Do a no-knock raid in Texas and a cop gets killed, the prosecutor may not even get an indictment. That is exactly what happened a few years ago and I think there are now very few, if any, no-knock raids conducted.

Someone yells out “police” doesn’t mean they are the police.

He is black. I have no sympathy for police who die in SWAT raids. Those units were originally formed to deal with a very narrow range of situations and were justified. Now they are used for more mundane arrests and political harassment. They the hammer that has replaced the other tools in the police toolkit and every situation looks like a nail now. Coffee is another guy that could have been arrested outside of his house and any house search deemed necessary could have been made immediately after.

SWAT teams should be relegated to the Sheriff's department, NOT allowed for any city, and their use limited only to hostage or active shooter situations.

This ensure that their use is under the authority of someone elected by the people, not hired/appointed by politicians. They're also immediately unavailable to the common cop, so they aren't used willy-nilly every chance they get. And, they should only be used in situations where they're actually needed, there's very few situations that actually require dynamic entry into a house/apartment. Potential drugs is not one of them.
