They could have required the defense to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant acted in self-defense, or they could have disallowed self-defense entirely. But instead, they enacted the law requiring the prosecution to disprove self-defense beyond a reasonable doubt. All three possible laws are almost certainly constitutional, and adjacent states could have completely different laws.

I don’t give a rats behind what people say about the ACLU. They may be a Brocken clock that gets 1 or 2 right every now and then, but that’s only by chance. The ACLU is by and large a pinko rat-hole of the worst kind.
