Get ready to add another stressor to your Thanksgiving holiday this year. The Farm Bureau reports that the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people is up 14% over last year, averaging at $53.31.
The Farm Bureau's calculations include turkey, stuffing mix, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a veggie tray, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, coffee and milk, with enough for leftovers. The turkey itself costs 24% more than last year, the group says; it's $23.99 for a 16-pound turkey.
In order to find the average costs, the Farm Bureau used volunteer shoppers between Oct. 28 and Nov. 8. — but the group, which lobbies on behalf of the agricultural industry, acknowledged that prices have already fallen in the time since the survey was conducted. This year, many grocery stores lowered prices later in the year, so the price of a frozen turkey, for example, is actually a lot more affordable right now. At the time of the survey, the cost for a 16-pound bird was around $1.50 per pound. But over the last week, it had fallen to 88 cents per pound for a whole frozen turkey.

It’s worth it.
Luckily Potted Meat is only $16 a pound. There might even be turkey byproducts included.
But it’s expected...so it’s alright.
Sure glad I live in N Texas. No empty grocery shelves to speak of and turkeys selling as low as 97 cents a pound.
It’s the same panic laden report every year.
Yummalicious!
If you spend $100 at Kroger you get a FREE turkey so with the savings I bought a ham too.
Stage?
They must mean serve...how odd.
Oh,I get it, everything is staged now so you can send picts via snapchat etc.
Happy turkey day, look at me!
You can’t come-over cuz yer not clot shotted.
Der!
To ‘serve’ a meal hints of slavery.
It is NPR after all!
Obesity kills more Americans than most other causes.
So the cost increase may benefit.
That’s OK, I saved 16 cents for my 4th of July party.
Americans struggle to keep a job, feed their kids, pay their bills, heat their homes, and find affordable food for their tables.
Meanwhile........the parasitic BIDEN CRIME FAMILY are all going to posh Nantucket for Thanksgiving.......sucking up tax dollars on AF ONE, LUXURY HOTELS AND ENDLESS FEASTING.
ON OUR DIME.
I paid $0.87. Today at the same store they were $0.39. Yeah, frozen, but I can accept that.
I have one of my “prepper” MREs for Turkey Day I can eat, with an old bottle of vino, so I’ll be alright. Didn’t cost much back in the early 2000s when I got the case.
Must be that all those empty shelves they show on TV are in Democratic controlled cites where you can’t drive a delivery truck to it’s destination unless you’re vaxxed ... or in the union ... or both
I liked the pork chow mein MRE.
That one’s also good, but for Turkey Day I’ll try the turkey/filling/mashed pots/cranberry unit.
It’s just “me, myself & I” this year. Everyone else is gone.
I’ve been alone for 24 years but go to the VFW or something
