mashed potatoes so rich you might need to eat while wearing a blood pressure cuff,
I am using that line for our Thanksgiving dinner. My beautiful wife prepares natural mashed potatoes on that day which are rich beyond belief.
Paired alongside a cheese sauce for broccoli that is, by definition, addictive.

My wife, the side dish queen, claims the dish is saturated with butter and will hold no more.
That and she actually likes most of my many relatives?

That is just hideous. CANNED asparagus and American cheese. Would probably be good with fresh asparagus and cheddar.

Throw a couple of diced jalapeƱos in the cranberry sauce for an unexpected kick!

Nope. Fresh asparagus is still too tough even when overcooked, only being tender enough when it has soaked in liquid for weeks or months. And cheddar, which I usually prefer, has too strong a flavor for the dish.

Yams are from Africa.
Sweet potatoes are American.

When you get to cut your own asparagus, it isn’t so tough.

I’ve been brining and smoking my birds the last several years but dislike smokey gravy, so this year I’m doing my bird in the indoor oven specifically going for MAX gravy. Drool!

When my son was still alive he used to put the turkey in the evening on Wednesday at the lowest setting. Talk about tender.
I actually prefer the dressing over the turkey.

That stuff is disgusting. Followed only by the “cheesy potatoes” and “cream corn” (its not creamed corn, its whole kernal corn in a vat of hot cream cheese) that have become popular.
If I disliked my family enough to give them corn bread then why did I bother to invite them over? I guess its not any worse than the waxy biscuits from a can.

Mock Oysters.
- Clean ALL the seeds off of the eggplant. The seeds give it away (mock oyster, an oyster doesn't have seeds)
- If you have access to good oyster sauce: Dynasty, Kame, LeeKumKee, or House of Tsang, add 2 tablespoons.
- Clarify your butter if you can afford the waste.
- It can be made with Ritz instead of Saltines, and in fact, low-salt Ritz was the best preparation, excellently soaked up the butter.
