Seattle City Council must restore police funding in budget vote
The Seattle Times ^ | November 17, 2021 | By The Seattle Times editorial board

To the Seattle City Council members currently debating 2022 public safety funding: You can listen to the voters, or to Twitter.

Here’s a clue: Your constituents just signaled their intentions for the city in the Nov. 2 election, a much more reliable poll than any social media platform.

On Thursday, council members will begin voting on final amendments that include dollars for the Seattle Police Department.

The City Council should approve an amendment sponsored by Councilmember Alex Pedersen of North Seattle that restores $10 million in SPD cuts, which were announced by Budget Chair Teresa Mosqueda last week.

Council members should turn off social media and listen to their constituents. The votes cast now will legitimately become fodder for district council campaigns in two years.

The city’s budget should reflect the priorities of the majority of its residents. Approve Pedersen’s amendment, and properly fund public safety.

The leftist, anti-police Seattle Times saw the light too, just like the voters.

We just saw a Republican running for City Attorney and being endorsed by 2 former Washington State democrat Governors winning big.

That’s so cute.

It’s as if they think they are facing run of the mill political opponents,
rather than the committed communists that have seized the reins of
power, and are utterly focussed on bringing about our total destruction.

I hope not. Most of the cops resigned and moved to FL. Let it burn.

They already abused the police they had—too late.

Cut funding, smart officers left. It’s not like Seattle can open the wallet and get back to normal policing quickly. Good luck finding or training qualified police officers.

there was an article on a FL newspaper last year that 95% of their FL police departments hiring quotas were met in November mainly due to Portland and Seattle cops moving to FL.

Maybe the Seattle voters have pulled their heads out of the pit of mud they have been wallowing in for years. Amazing that it took people in my home town to poke their heads out of the pig sty. Not holding my breath, but this is a step in the right direction. Will withhold judgment until after the vote regarding the evil Kshama Sawant in December.

Seattle's my hometown too, don't live there anymore but my daughter does.

Yeah, if commie Kshama gets recalled it will show the city is heading in a better direction.

WA State is a “must issue” state when it comes to concealed carry licenses.

WA State is a “must issue” state..

Technically it's a 'shall issue' state.
