He was playing around when he shot them. This was not a scene.
IOW, his actions were not part of the movie, but part of “messing around”. If I was “messing around” with a real gun and pointed it at someone and pulled the trigger, and shot them dead, well, I’d be arrested and tried for, at the very least, involuntary manslaughter.
But that’s just my opinion.

I though it was a rehearsal and ‘set up’. That interminable part in between shooting scenes, takes a couple of hours of “messing around” to get ready to shoot 3 minutes.
