What, I’m not supposed to believe my lying eyes? In the video we can clearly see the cab pull up and stop. The cab doors are closed as the bomb explodes. Then a few seconds later the cabby opens the driver door and climbs out.

Same here. I keep reading that he locked the jihadist in the cab, but it looks to me like the cabbie was in the cab during the explosion and then he jumps out. You can't lock a person into a cab that has just exploded.

On a lot of cars here in the UK, the doors don’t automatically lock when closed; but the driver and font seat passenger will have a central locking button. My guess is that the taxi driver locked the doors while they were both still inside; the bomber, not being familiar with the vehicle, couldn’t operate the control and attempted to set off the bomb inside the car. Having now seen the video, it didn’t detonate properly; he was incapacitated while the injured taxi driver was able to escape - either unlocking the doors or maybe the blast had forced them open.
If I’m correct, then the taxi driver desereves a medal.
