World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has condemned the widespread use of booster doses of Covid-19 vaccines, as reported on the WHO Twitter page.
"It makes no sense to give boosters to healthy adults or to vaccinate children, when healthworkers, older people & other high-risk groups around the world are still waiting for their 1st dose," he said.

The WHO Director-General emphasized that six times more booster doses are used every day in the world than the first injections given in countries with a low standard of living. He called this situation a scandal.
According to Tedros Ghebreyesus, only immunocompromised people need additional doses of the coronavirus vaccine. The head of the WHO also said that to date, two countries in the world have not yet begun vaccination against Covid-19 - Eritrea and North Korea.
Meanwhile, WHO declares the risk of shortage of syringes for vaccination worldwide.
"There could be a global shortage of 1 billion to 2 billion syringes for the COVID-19 vaccine in 2022," the message reads.
Lack of syringes could stop vaccination of children around the world, as well as force poor countries to reuse needles.
