SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — The New Jersey State Police named the two victims of the single-engine plane crash who died in Hampton Township's Kemah Lake section of Sussex County on Thursday afternoon.

Thomas P. Fischer, 54, of Hopatcong and Glen M. de Vries, 49 of New York, New York, died in the crash, Trooper Brandi Slota, a spokesperson from the State Police, said early Friday.

De Vries traveled along with William Shatner who played Captain Kirk in "Star Trek," in a "fully automated capsule constructed by Jeff Bezos' space tourism company, Blue Origin," in October, as well as Chris Boshuizen and Audrey Powers, for the second passenger flight in the capsule, after Bezos flew the first.

NOT a good comparison since every day there are more cars on the road than small planes in the air by a factor of at least a thousand.

Also not a good comparison. You need to compare the number of people in cars to the number of people in airplanes.

I’m very comfortable in the R-22 and R-44 due to autorotation capability.

Blue Origin had parachutes for descent,
this plane didn`t ...
illogical thinking

John Denver

John Denver was flying a recently purchased experimental airplane. He ran out of gas in one tank and when he struggled to find the awkwardly located tank switch he flew the plane into the ground.

Not sure what about my post triggered you. Just shining a little light on the John Denver crash and offering additional support for the reality that it's almost always pilot error rather than the airplane that causes crashes.

Has it occurred to any of you he had probably been vaccinated and died from from a stroke or heart attack as a result.

It only takes one time under the right circumstances, no matter how good you are. Scotty Crossfield for example.

It comes down to pilot competency.

Mr. Helper huh?

I saw your bragging about your alcohol consumption on your personal page. I have also reviewed your recent posts. There has been quite a bit of belligerence and name calling on your part this afternoon and evening. It's clear you're well into your weekend celebrating. Perhaps you should sober up a bit before posting. Maybe sleep it off and try again tomorrow.

You called it, but I will say it’s kind of entertaining when he sends a bunch of private messages. Just a lonely old guy I think.

I disagree. 200 hour pilots are the worst

Not really, not in small general aviation planes. There are 16 fatal accidents per million hours of general aviation. ... If the average speed of car travel is 50 miles per hour, those 1.7 deaths occur in 2 million hours of driving. This makes general aviation, with 16 deaths per 1 million hours, roughly 20 times as dangerous per hour than driving.

Airliners are a whole other story.
