President Trump in his typical CAN DO style pushed creation of vaccines for the Wuhan flu at warp speed.
Then he blew it by saying (paraphrasing) “this is just ano0ther flu and will go away when summer weather arrives”.
Voters construed that Trump was not serious about this highly contagious (10 X more than influenza) disease. And many stayed home or even switched to Biden. Look, that moderate candidate won in Virginia for governor by avoiding fool-hardy remarks, which Trump lost by 10 points.
Right or wrong, Americans are scared of covid, why else would 225,000,000 adult Americans choose to jab themselves with some experimental vaccine. That is more than 3 times more than votes Trump received in either election.
Those who ignore political reality, will be voted out of office or lose every election.

I had COVID TWICE, and recovered nicely. It was even less sever than many flu virus I have had in my lifetime.
The COVID hysteria is way over the top. World governments are using it to control people.
The media and the Democrat pols immediately recognized that the Wuhan coronavirus was the way to "get Trump". First out of the gate was "he's a racist" with his suspension of airline travel from China. The one thing they knew for sure was that they couldn't let Trump (rightly) blame the CCP for this bug, which could lead to a 9-11 style "rally 'round the flag" moment.
It was obvious in mid-late March of last year that the focus groups were receptive of the "Trump's not taking this seriously" meme, as he was trying to lead and avoid people panicking. The Democrat and GOPe elites are still pounding that drum, and it still seems to work with an astonishingly large number of people.
