We received hepatitis shots in RVN called gamma globin(?) It was a standout on my overly long shot record. Don’t know if it was the same as today but it was VERY uncomfortable!
The scuttlebutt was they used SQUARE needles? It was mixed with hot was, leaving a hard lump in the rear?
Gamma globulin(s) are solutions of the antibodies derived from plasma donors.
The injections are thick and have some volume to them, so they hurt. We dispense a lot of Rabies Globulin to the ER, and weight based doses can be in the 5 - 10ml range. Multiple injections are needed and I understand it can be painful.
What does RVN mean?

Back in the day, it was the “Republic of Viet Nam”.
As in:
PLEASE MISTER JOHNSON
DROP THAT BOMB
CAUSE I DON’T WANT TO GO
TO VIET NAM!...
Perhaps they are paying by the word and changed to a single word?

In 1976, I was working in a pathology lab and was exposed to hep B when I was cut by a broken test tube containing a hepatitis blood sample. I got two gamma globulin shots about a week apart; the first was fairly uncomfortable, but the second was OK because I rode my bicycle to work right afterward. I have no idea whether I had antibodies after that, though I have since donated blood numerous times.
